if you have purchased a copy of the movie then you are allowed to make an archive copy for yourself. but, if you have not paid for a copy of the film, it's illegal.

They've been far more strict with copyright laws.. it now states that reproducing for personal use is illegal as well.. Not to mention, some DVD's have a copyright protector that will allow you to copy it but make it so the original DVD no longer works.. I work in a rental store and it happens ALL the time.. to the point where the business might end up shutting down because we have to constantly replace movies after one or two people rent them..

Not really. It's known to be 'illegal' or wrong, but if it's for your own personal use and the word gets out to no one about it, then there's really no harm in it. Not like the cops will come through your door at 3 in the morning to arrest you for burning dvds. I don't even think it's a law. The only way it can be wrong is if it's a movie that hasn't been in theaters yet, and you're selling it on the street! Other then that, you have nothing 2 worry about :-)
