Right now I'm on Year 6 at a junior college, a 2-year college, to get my General Ed credits, before going to film school. I feel like just giving up, but won't. How long should I go until I just give up? 12 years, including University work? I have no credits towards my degree.

I have a Skills Certificate in Digital Video.
I'm working towards an IGETC degree (Associate's degree in General Ed)
I want to transfer to a film school for a Bachelor's degree in Film.

I've attempted 103.5 credits, but only earned 48.5 (46.9%). My cumulative GPA is 2.8.

I've been put on Progress Dismissal (I think that's what it's called), and got a couselor to take it off for me. In a semester the highest I've completed is 7 units.

I know I f'ed up :-(

Run, do not walk, to your advisor's office. I don't understand at all how your school could have let you drift like this. Have you been going to school one class at a time, or is this full-time? If they knew that you wanted to go on for a bachelor's degree, they should have been steering you into specific courses that would have given you credit toward a degree. Do you realize that a 4-year degree consists of 120 credits, so if you had actually finished the things you started, you would almost have a bachelor's degree by now!

There has to be more to this. Why is it taking you so long? A two year degree takes just that--two years.
Is there a reason you have been there six? Do you work a lot? If so, try checking out colleges with better hours so you can get in more school time (or a less difficult job).
It sounds unusual that you would have no credits towards a degree after six years. You need to speak to someone at the school, an advisor or something.

How much time you spend in school is completely up to you. No strangers over the internet could answer that question.

An associates degree normally takes 2 years going full time.
A Bachelors degree normally takes an additional 2 years going full time...
Totaling 4 years.

Sounds like its time to step up the pace a little and take more classes per semester or take intersession classes, Internet classes, or other to pick up the pace. 5 classes a semester minimum, No excuses. No dropping! :-)

How can you have no credits toward your degree if you have been going 6 years? What have you been taking all this time? Underwater nuclear basket weaving?

Seriously, go to the film school you want to attend and take a copy of your transcript with you, along with a "prospective" class schedule for your next semester. Make sure they will transfer in all those classes you have been taking for the past 6 years... if they don't... transfer directly to the film school and stop wasting your time and money.
Good Luck!
