I am sick and fed up with this horrid music that has become a parasite in the yahoo! answers site. I am talking about the horrid music called emo/scene. if you absolutely despise bands like P!ATD, FOB, and other horrid pubescent so-called "punk" bands, please i would love to hear what you have to say about them.

I agree. I've had the bad fortune of growing up with this kind of rubbish and I want it to end. For a while, My Chemical Romance et al were tolerable. They had a few catchy songs here and there but no real substance. It's only since the onslaught of these obsessive 12 year olds that they've really started to annoy me. They're nothing special, so WHY are these kids going absolutely apeshit over them?

If they want to listen to them, fine, but why should everyone else have to put up with their childish ramblings on sites such as this one? It's times like these, I wish that yahoo would set up an answers site for kids. They wouldn't be annoying us and we wouldn't be annoying them. Everyones a winner!

I am not so sick of the music you refer to (and which I have heard some), but I am sick of all the labels that many feel they have to apply to rock music. Yes, "emo" is the first one I see here, and I won't even bother to list the others.

I think of the bands you are referring to as Pop Punk bands since they, like their record labels, are in the game for cash and a little fame. However, they do cancel themselves out as standing for little more than just musicians who have some upbeat, catchy tunes, witty lyrics, who appeal to a wider group of listeners.

The first wave of Punk bands in both the U.K and the U.S. had more to say, laughed at the idea of making big buck$, (since few record labels wanted them, no radio stations would play them, and there was a real backlash from the MOR Rock fans at the time), and whose stance often included the rejection of fame for the trap that it was and can still be...

What is real rock to me? From the 1960s - The Sonics. From the 1960 / 70s - The MC 5 and The Stooges. From the 1980s - Husker Du and The Replacements. From the 1990s -2000 - The Vines and The Hives.

I think the only label you could apply to any of them is 'Pop'.
It most certainly is NOT 'Rock'.

This is because, like most pop, they are all 5 minute wonders. In a few months, their 'greatest fans' will have moved on to the next sound-alike band.

Whilst I would agree that we all have a right to listen to and enjoy whatever we want, teenagers {and older!} these days {with the exception of one or two I have seen post on here} seem to have to concept of what MUSIC really is.

I was fortunate enough to grow-up on my parents taste in music ~ 1950's - early 1980's ~ which is why I love Classic Rock so much.

But from the ages of 11-12 I too went through a tacky 'pop' phase {early-mid 90's} ~ but I VERY quickly realised just what rubbish it was.

At that point, I broadened my music collection to vast preportions, mostly because I was willing to listen to advice from others, and go looking into various genres.

Classic Rock will always be my first love!

There does need to be a separate subsection for "classic" rock.

I'm a "live and let live" kind of guy, but I don't care for this generation's music, either. It all sounds the same to me. Now I understand what my dad meant when he said the same thing to me 35 years ago about Zeppelin, Sabbath, and Purple. :-)

I can discuss Sabbath with anybody but I have no idea what MCR is (I know what the initials mean - I have teenaged nieces). How does one (or a bunch of ones) go about getting a new category (or subcategory) in Yahoo Answers?

YA "Rock and Pop" is a subcatagory which is inadequate for all of us 60's and 70's Classic Rock and Hard Rock fans to find or share info on the subject, or to assist the younger generation to discover this classic, ground-breaking genre.
How can we get these folks (who are probably newbies in the music scene themselves) to expand this catagory?

People should realize what real music is. Real musicians have talent and passion. they don't write music just to earn $$. i'm sick of all the fangirls going crazy over mcr of fob while there are so many other good artistes waiting to be discovered and liked by everyone. people need to break out of their shell and explore music.

i listen to mcr, but they're overrated and so overplayed on radio .

How can those bands be called rock? Rock is bands like Guns and Roses, Velvet Revolver, Breaking Benjamin! Not FOB or MCR!!! They should have their own category.

Calling them punk is a disgrace to punk rock. None of them can beat the likes of the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, and The Clash. I just categorize them as crap.

But...as much as I have to say about these bands, people have the right to listen to the music they want to listen to. I can't force them to start listening to something else. But I can always try to guide.

I think everyone has a right to listen to what they want, but atleast I know the amazing music they're missing out on in the process. I try to be open-minded about music, but when it comes to the bands you mentioned, I can't be, I just flat-out don't like them.
