HowWouldKnow (bottom)

No, The moral of both stories, was the struggle for the preservation of what these men held dear. To preserve the countries that they loved, respected and honored.

Not only this, but to ensure the survival of their own families, friends and the people they called fellow country-men whom they held dear.

This message rings true today in our own country, in fighting to preserve freedom from entities such as Al-Qaeda, Radical Jihadists, and other evil, like minded entities.

Please do not glorify this unnecessary war with something as honorable as Gladiator or 300. If Bush Senior would have taken out Saddam when he had the chance, the Iraq war would have never happened. IF 9/11 had occurred anyway, then we would be in Afghanistan and Bin Laden would have been captured right off and none of this would be happening today except for the oil. So if you are saying that our way of life is just about the oil than what kind of living is that? I don't think there is a democrat or republican that if faced with imminent danger to their family or their neighbor or thier town would not pitch in and do what ever they could. In fact if this were a justified war we would all be on rations, and trying to conserve as much gas and oil as possible. It is not the troops that we don't support, it is the idiot that sent them over there.

They are the message of both movies, and they are both correct.

The problem is there are people who dont care about freedom or for others. Oh they'll pretend they do but the second they are asked to support anything that has to do with protecting people or fighting the evil of our time and they'll whine, moan, complain, and do anything to escape it.

If you remember in 300, the politician who was abandoning the troops was also taking money from the enemy. Its happened in the past, it happens today. Two words for you. Norman Hsu.

Today there is another fight for freedom that is not as apparent as depicted in those movies. In those movies their aim was clear. Today our fight for freedom is not so clear. Isn't freedom really a persons ability to choose without government interference what is best for himself or herself? Today freedoms fight is also either to have vouchers for schools so that you can choose where to send your son or daughter or to leave the school system the way it is and have the state decide for you. To have the current healthcare system where you can choose or to have a state run healthcare system were the state chooses for you. True the fight for freedom is more glorious and easy to see on the battle field but it is just as important in the voting booth! In this case the sacrifice is recognition of the problem.

Both Rome and Sparta were cities built on slave labor. So the moral you got out of it was to sacrifice for the freedom to take freedom away from somebody else?

Not when it is freedom we are being told to sacrifice. If we give in to the Bush-nazis, there won't be any freedom left for future generations.

I like the scene in Braveheart where they were about to rip Mel Gibson apart, and he yelled out FREEDOM! That about says it all.

Can't forget about "Braveheart" or "The Patriot." Mel Gibson rocks! May as well include "Band of Brothers" and "Saving Private Ryan" in that bunch as well.

To answer your question. I got the message.
