It's called "Rayleigh scattering".
As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths (reds) pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air.
However, much of the shorter wavelength light (blues) is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue.
I hope that's understandable. I know it's complex.
So many of these other silly people think it's because of the ocean. Kind of a neat idea...just wrong. I live in the desert, and the sky is still blue!

the blue shade of the sky is by using Rayleigh scattering. As gentle strikes throughout the time of the ambience, many of the longer wavelengths bypass at recent by way of. Little of the pink, orange and yellow gentle is stricken by way of the air. even inspite of the undeniable fact that, various the shorter wavelength gentle is absorbed by way of the gas molecules. The absorbed blue gentle is then radiated in distinctive guidelines. It gets scattered all over the sky. Whichever course you seem, a number of this scattered blue gentle reaches you. on account which you spot the blue gentle from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue.

Because if it were green, you wouldn't know when to stop mowing.
The wavelength of blue light is longer than the other colors of visible light. Therefore, blue is the color that is seen. I wonder however why then, the sky isn't violet.

The sky is blue because the sky refelcts the ocean. I could go into more detail, but I'll keep it short and sweet.
