I had a similar creepy experience; except my shadow kept lurking on the wall in front of me. Turned out I was coming between it and the lamp. Living in the dark solved the problem.

If you walk backwards, it will be in front of you. Saves on the wretched neck with the wild head spin. If you strap side mirrors to your shoulders you can see where your going.

Check your shoes..Maybe you stepped in something sticky and then stepped on your shadow so the poor thing is stuck.....
