Decades?

(To the uneducated--that would mean: "More than 10 years.")

We've already spent close to $1T dollars in just 5 years of war alone--not counting the costs of healthcare, benefits, and whatnot for our troops.

Estimates are that for ten more years until 2017 or 2018--the cost of this occupation would total $3T dollars.

Now, let's jump ahead 50 years; to 2057.

Cost of occupation then: Estimated to be $15T dollars.

And this is not counting the added costs of veteran care, benefits, etc...associated with the troops--including the costs of replacing equipment and whatnot.

Now WHO do you suppose is going to pay for all this? And do you think it will be worth it--when faced with this kind of a bill?

Is it worth wrecking our own economy in the process--just to see this war through to the end? When people say we haven't sacrified anything, we can point out the following: Stagnant wages, rising healthcare costs, cost of living, lack of affordable education...?

Everything put into the kitty--just to keep the war going.

not to worry. it'll be future generations paying for GW's wars. they'll be docked out their paycheck to pay back the loans to communist China their entire lives. but oh well ... GW gave the wealthy some nice fat tax breaks, the Military Industrial Complex is humming along filling the coffers of their stock holders, the mega corps like Big Oil have been subsidized despite huge profits and some middle class folks got a few hundred bucks off their taxes so most people nowadays don't mind the trillions of dollars of debt.

isn't it funny how so many Americans snarl with indignation at the the idea of their taxes paying for universal health care improving and saving the lives of American citizens but have no problem seeing their taxes going into the pockets of war profiteers, paying for wreaking hell and havoc, bombing and killing and maiming?

Before you run your mouth to much, tell us how many years have you put into the military? How much money out of your pocket is it costing you? I spent 20 years in the military and I can tell you that you sleep pretty well considering how very little the military cost you as a person. WW11, Korea, Viet Nam, Yugoslavia, do any of these Ring a bell with you they are all democrat wars. If Mr. Clinton had been doing his job instead of get a *****job you would have to call this another Democrat war. Mr. Clinton didn't do his job, but I guess that you wouldn't know that, would you? Further more all of this money that you think we are giving the military isn't going to the military per say. It ends up in the pockets of a lot more civilians than it does military folks. All of the goods used in the military are produced by civilians not by military personnel. I might point out to you that a war does not hurt the economy but in fact helps it. There has never been a war that the civilians haven't prospered. War means more jobs and higher wages, I know that you are so eaten up with you dismay of the GOP and how the Republicans stole the presidency (right) that you say stuff that makes you sound foolish. I know better than that, If you want to make your point you have to fact find and not scratch just the surface. You think that this Iraq thing started with Bush (daddy), but in fact it started under the Johnson administration (1968) This is when the Iraq government started looking for Nuclear Technology. Don't feel bad about giving me a thumbs down I don't take it that way, I take it that it rang through to you and you didn't either like it or get it.

Are you willing to bankrupt the U.S. Treasury by voting for a Democrat like Obama or Edwards who want to create a bloated, inefficient, wasetful Universal Healthcare Plan???

Or expand an already wasteful, bloated, inefficient Welfare Program?

Or expand an already wasteful, inefficient, overfunded, mismanaged public school system?

Now WHO do you think is going to pay for all of that??? And will it be worth it when faced with the bill?

Is it worth wrecking our own economy just to make people even mor dependant on a gov't that always seems to come up short as caretaker? All of the above will surely result in stagnant wages, rising healthcare costs, cost of living, lack of an education altogether.

No, I'd rather throw 15 trillion at confronting the greatest menace to western civilization since the Crusades.

How funny that all of the conservatives act like they can even fathom one trillion dollars...money that has been used to KILL people...to say nothing of the billions unaccounted for. It's all about more than money anyway. It's about oil, war profiteers and death. This cult-like adoration of Bush is so disturbing to me...he has made so many fatal mistakes and yet, the cons think of him as a "good leader". I don't know what it would take to make them see the truth about this egotistical, stubborn, greedy man!

Our presence in Japan and Germany is MUCH cheaper than the Iraq war.

it's not going to bankrupt our country. The fact is it barely makes a dent.
We've occupied germany and Japan for over 60 years, South Korea 50. Why weren't you complaining about the cost of that?

Where's your proof that it will bankrupt the treasury? All I see are numbers that don't add up correctly. You are betting that we will spend the same amount of money in Iraq for the next 50 years. where is your proof on that? Don't pretend you care about costs lib. You have no leg to stand on.
