i have a band but recently its fallen apart. My singer and my drummer dont really want to play for a long time. i on the other hand take music very seriously. I have a replacement singer, but i cant find a decent bass player or a decent drummer. Another problem is that my singer right now is a girl, but the replacement person would be a guy. which a seriously different sound. Lastly, the girl singer is the girl i like, but i feel like if i ask her out and things dont work out, she will quit the band for sure.. so im really stuck with band and girl trouble. please answer. thanks ahead of time.

I have been with bands for years. Don't be offended ladies, but my experience with chicks in my band, it never worked out. Only tried it two times and that was enough. Unless she is a great song writer or has a voice like Maria Carey, bail. For the most part, of coarse there are exceptions, guys, girls and bands don't work, at least from my experience.

I've recently been on the other end of something pretty similar. First of all, make sure you're having fun with the music. Do you enjoy making music with the girl you like or this new singer more? Do you enjoy the process of practicing and writing new songs, or do you enjoy the live shows and success of a serious band? If the latter, I'd say go with the guy singer- simply because I'm given no reason to assume that the relationship would be sustained for as long as the band.. and that sort of tension can lead to bad news down the road. As for a drummer and bassist, get a few songs together first (with the guitarist playing bass parts and a drum machine) to show to potential recruits. Once you've got some songs you're proud of, start scouring the myspaces, local shows, guitar centers, and etc. until you have a good range of players to choose from... and as a rule of thumb- always let personality have some priority over skill. People can get better at their instruments.. but don't tend to change their personalities...... or at least not nearly as fast as the former.

Any other concerns are concerns you've really got to answer for yourself. Good Luck.

Place ads in the newspaper or "trades" for auditons for a drummer and bassist--Only the serious need appear. Once they're found (good luck on this), then find a male lead. Give the girl a BS instrument that if missing, won't really cut the band's sound either way. Then you can date the girl, who can leave and the band still rocks on.

Well, with the girl, professionally, it wouldn't be a good idea to date her. But if you guys are just starting out, just check her out and see how she works as friends first.

Usually, your band members should always be ready for practice or they shouldn't be in the band in te first place. I find it weird that you have replacements for a singer.

If you want to honestly make it big and be serious about your music, find serious people. If you just want to have fun, you wouldn't be asking this question.

well dating your lead singer who is already thinking about quiting the band is not a very good idea. try sitting down the whole band and talking about it tell them you are serious about music. good luck.
