I'm sorry to read about your mom. Mine died too and I'm now figuring out how to deal with girl stuff.
If you know what you need and what to do than you may just want to tell him that you need some money for personal things/feminine care and give him a $ number. Just price the things that you need online and give him a total. You may want to take an adult female member of your family or close friend for shopping.
I wish you all the best. Please feel free to email me if you like :)

It's understandable that you may feel uncomfortable and he might too. Is there maybe another female figure in your life you can turn to for advice like an aunt or a friend's mother. It may help and they could give your dad some tips. If you don't really have anyone like that just tell your dad that you need to get some feminine stuff at the store, he'll understand (too much detail might freak him out). With the bras just test them out and see what fits best and for the tampons get regular and pads to wear overnight. You'll get the swing of it and so will he :)

What's happening now is a normal part of life, so don't be embarrassed to talk about it with your Dad. Look, a lot of kids don't understand that your parents are people too. Your Dad would know about bras, and periods, because your Mum would have used them too. He just might not realise that you need them sooner rather than later, so just talk to him.
If he's not comfortable taking you shopping for this sort of thing (and some guys just aren't) can you organize a good older female to take you shopping with, with Dad footing the bill? Perhaps one of your school friend's Mum, as they would already know where to shop, if their daughters are the same age. Or an Aunty?

Just tell ur dad u need some personal girlie stuff, he`ll know what u mean, u won`t have to explain. He can drive u and wait up front until u pick out the things u need so he can pay or he`ll give u the money and wait for u outside. Don`t be afraid to tell ur dad ur needs, ur mom needed the same things, so he knows all about it. It may be a little awkward for u both, but these things r not a big secret.

Do you have an aunt or other female to go shopping with? Just ask your dad for money to go with your Aunt/other to get some "girl stuff".
Since he is your only parent (sorry to hear about your mom) it may be a little weird to hear from his 'little girl' that she needs pads/tampons/bras, but that is his responsibility now.

If you don't feel comfortable asking your dad outright, maybe a female relative you are comfortable with can relay your message to him? If not, maybe you can just write a shopping list and give it to him...he'll get the message pretty quickly and you won't have to say a word.
I don't think you should have anything to be embarrassed about - your dad is an adult and he must know that these requests will be coming someday from his daughter. He might even be as uncomfortable as you about these things! :) Once you break the ice, I don't think you'll have any problems with these items in the future.

All good advice so far. Talk to him if you can, but if you really can't bring yourself to, maybe ask him for money to go shopping and then go with a friend for the bra.
If you have a grocery list on the fridge or where ever, just write "tampons" on it.

Make your dad a drink and then both of you sit down when you have at least 10 minutes. Say " Now that I'm a teenager I need some things......." wait for a reply. If theres no reply, say I need to buy a bra and things for menstruation.
Good luck. Either that or talk to his sister or mother.

Don't be afraid. He was married to a woman so he will understand. Just say, "Dad, we need to talk about some things that girls need." Do you have an aunt or a grandmother?
