Traditions and "homeland' culture had to be retold in secret in order to pass them on. Stories change with each telling down through the generations.

I find the pride most African Americans take over describing how badly BEATEN they were as kids, and how they can't wait to have kids of their own so they can beat them.

It makes me sick hearing people recollect how their parents would beat them with switches, belts, or any other objects. I was never beaten as a child, and I became a well rounded individual with strong ethical social skills.
