Armand sees Désirée, their child, his slaves as mere possessions, ones that either reflect well or poorly upon him. -self-interest symbols.
**
The justly famous "Désirée's Baby" dramatizes the rage of a planter, Armand, whose name is one of the oldest and proudest in Louisiana, when he discovers that his infant son has ******* features. Blaming his wife, whom he has loved passionately, and sending her away, he "thought that God had dealt cruelly and unjustly with him; and felt somehow that he was paying him back in kind when he stabbed thus into his wife's soul." She walks into the bayou, carrying her baby, while Armand, in burning all her possessions, discovers a letter from his mother telling of her own ***** blood.

Kate rymes with gate Chopin is pretty much they way everybody else has said, but the 'cho' isnt like 'show' as in 'will you show me that' more like sho which rhymes with 'more' if you have a posh english acent, or raw if you have my accent. The 'pin' bit is pronounced 'pan' but with a real 'a' in the middle, not sounding like 'pen' (again if you have posh english accent)

I read this book decades ago. The young woman was happily married to a White man. At least, she thought that she was making a "perfect match" for herself. She became pregnant and delivered a healthy "baby girl." The problem with that was that this woman believed "mentally" that she hated Black folk. When she found out that her baby was of Black origin, she waded out into the water and immediately killed it. She was "ashamed" of being Black. The very sad thing about this is, that she could always have "another Black baby." The point that she never picked up was that her husband was indeed the Black person. He, however, never knew that he was "Black." This was an incredibly "sad" story about folk who didn't like themselves. Remember this, What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. - Psalm 68:19. Peace, Love and God Bless.
