If you're talking ingredients...my husband makes the best hamburgers. Everybody loves them. He puts finely chopped fresh mushrooms, onion soup mix, and diced garlic. Mixes it up with the hamburger meat. We usually grill it.

I don't know if you mean in the meat - or in the bun.
Mix a pound of meat with an egg, 1/2 cup bread crumbs and a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce.
This makes four patties.
Once you cook them - you can add cheese and wait for it to melt.
Then - in the bun - choose from ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, onion.
Enjoy!

butter some white bread and slap it together. i think that is the original way a burger was intended to be . me??? i like all the shits and giggles on it. never tried the other way.
as for in it just add some salt n pepper on the outside and some diced onion mixed with the raw meat before cooking

there is no "should" in this! it is up to your liking.
personally, I like the ground meat plain, with just salt and pepper, grilled medium rare and topped with grilled onion, mushroom, tomato, cheese, ketchup, mustard, A1 sauce and a splash of tabasco. + a side serving of french fries and some coleslaw.
