I am 22 weeks and 4 days pregnant. At 19 weeks i had an u/s to find out the gender but the baby's legs were closed so we couldn't see anything:-( At 22 weeks i had another u/s and the baby's legs were open but not wide open. The sonographer said 70% it looks like a girl but she is not sure and advised that i don't buy everything pink, things can be different at the time of the birth. Now i wanna call my baby with the name i picked for her but my husband thinks it's not a good idea since we are not 100% that we are having a girl. My question is: What are the chances that i will have a boy not a girl since sonographer couldn't be 100% sure? Did anyone have a similar experience? thanks!

well...I had my U/S for my son at 17 weeks and yes it was defn. a boy! haha...My friend though was suppose to be a boy and ended up a girl. So it's never positive...ask for another U/S later on...you still have awhile to plan names and buy stuff..

I had my first and suposed to be only U/S at 21 weeks. The tech said she wasn't allowed to tell us the gender but that we should make our own conclusions. I couldnt see the parts from the angle I was laying out, but my husband was pretty sure he saw the 3 lines, but he's no u/s tech so he really didnt know what he was looking at. So, he like your husband didn't think it was a great idea to call the baby by a girls name when it could turn out to be a boy. I was sooo upset leaving the hospital I wanted to go out andbuy stuff, and its hard not knowing, I'm sorry but there is only so much green and yellow unisex stuff you can buy! Well 7 weeks later I had to have another u/s done because they thought my cervix length was short, the doctor tried to see the sex for us but since I am a small framed person the baby had very little room and their legs werent closed but squished together from lack of room. Another BIG disappoint!!! left the hospital in tears once again, having no hope of finding out until the baby was born. Well just last week had a little scare and they thought I was leaking amniotic fluid, so they sent me to the hospital to Labor and Delivery. Ran and the tests and what not, then the nurse found out we didnt know the sex, and I was measuring almost 4 weeks small at my last doctors appt, so they decided to do another u/s (and here I was only suposed to have 1 u/s the entire pregnancy).. and we found out at 30 weeks, that we are for sure having a girl. Now we can buy girl stuff, and call her by her name and what not. (And all the old wives tales and signs were pointing to me having a boy... carrying really low, belly looks like a basketball, just carrying all the weight up front don't look pregnant from behind, etc...) so anything is possible, but, don't give up I'm sure you will have another u/s sometime during your pregnancy and maybe you can find out for sure then. Nothing is ever 100% until birth, but it'd be nice to have 99% odds instead of 70%. Hang in there! I really hope you get to find out.

Okay...first of all, at 22 weeks, there is a possibility that a small penis could be mistaken for a swollen labia and vice versa. I had a similar experience with my daughter. I had numerous sonograms due to a problematic pregnancy and in every one she either had her legs closed or her back turned. They never guessed at a gender b/c we couldn't see anything. However, at 38 weeks they did one last sonogram and she had gotten so big that she couldn't hide her secret anymore. But I wanted to call her by her name while I was pregnant, but since I didn't know the gender until almost the end, I didn't know what to call her. So I made up a nickname that could be used for a boy or girl and I still call her doodlebug to this very day and she is four.

Nothing is for sure until the baby is born unless you have amniocentisis. Buy some green and yellow baby clothes and get the rest after the baby is born. The stores wont run out of pink and blue clothes. If you have baby showers, ask for gift cards so you can shop when the baby is here. Choose a motif for the nursery that will go with any sex like disney, baby animals etc. If you go with basic yellow you can spice it up for a boy with red white and blue or a girl with pink and purple. If you go with green you can add blue for a boy or pink for a girl. We had a pet nickname for our baby when we didnt know the sex. We just called it Lumpy.

Go shopping, but check return policies at each store. Buy things you like for a boy and a girl. Not too much, but enough to have fun and be excited. Keep the receipts so you can return the ones you can't use. Buy something gender neutrel if you really like it. Gymboree does a Unisex line(www.gymboree.com). If you buy neutrel and then have a girl, everyone will buy you so much pink that you will be happy to have some other colors like yellow and green in the wardrobe.

I had that problem with my girl. The doctor was 100% sure, but pretty sure. So I found an ultrasound school and went there. They did a 45 minute u/s, had a few people scan (since they were learning, but had the teacher also scan) and they determined she was a girl for sure. They also gave me pictures and the whole ting on video. You could try looking for one of those schools in your area or try calling a college.

Sonograms readings are not %100. Sometimes the people do make mistakes and I think it it very good of the person to relay that they were not certain of the gender. Just make sure you have a name picked either which way it goes and that way there will be no surprises. Congratulations.

with our first u/s they said they werent sure if it was a girl or boy, but were leaning towards a girl. the next time we had one it was a girl for sure. there are two ways to tell. if there's a turtle head or a hambuger...sounds goofy but thats the way you can tell. just look at the pics you have and look hard. I do agree with your husband though. just wait to call your baby its name. we had a name picked out but then our daughter was born and she looked nothing like the name we chose. and so we picked another one.

ur doctor will still advise u to have another ultrasound weeks before ur due date so by that time, the gender is nearly 100% seen, and the baby's position will be a bit different. u can buy things with color light blue, it's unisex

The only REAL guarantee is birth. Aside from that, these stenographers do this day in and day out. In fact, MANY doctors rely on them to show them stuff before the radiologist can look at it. If the stenographer says not to buy all pink, then I wouldn't. At 22 weeks, and baby not "revealing him/her self" then yes, especially with girls, it can be mistaken. You could always pay for one out of pocket in a few weeks if doc doesn't have a medical reason to repeat the u/s. HTH!

Most likely it's a girl :)
70% is high odds! they can never say 100% what you are having because of legal purposes (they don't want a lawsuit if the baby comes out a different sex than they told you :)
our's is a boy ... and there were no doubts. sounds like there isn't a penis and scrotum on yours :)
