Absolutely. Snape chose love (for Harry's mother) over his dark side (sort of a reverse Anakin Skywalker), and kept his true intentions hidden throughout the seven book series. It is much easier being heroic when your deeds can be publicly celebrated. Snape had to work in the dark, his true actions known by only one man, and forced to attract loathing and hatred from the people he was trying to save in order to win Voldemort's trust. Not a perfect person, but even noble people have their faults.

He has his flaws...Lord he has flaws! But to secretly love Mrs. Potter forever and actually do his best to protect Harry to the end, even when it galled Snape to help Harry, or put himself-Snape, in danger playing both sides; still, he must be given credit. Whether he's actually a classic hero figure I don't know. That is certainly debatable! But the Greek tragic heroes often went thru hell and back all for LOVE. So, okay, yes, I concede in a broad scope of Literature, Snape can be considered a hero.

Snape is a great literary character. He keeps you guessing and you love to hate him. It's fabulous. But a hero, no. And here's why: Everything Snape ever did he did for his own reasons. He furthered Voldemort and Dumbledore's ends, in turn, but only because of his feelings for Lily Potter. In the end, Snape was for Snape, and that's it. Heroes are simply by definition more selfless than that.

He's a "hero". The seventh book.... do not continue reading if you have not yet read it.... shows that Snape has alway been working for Dumbledore because he had a crush on Lily. And when he found out that Voldemort was gonna kill her, he went to Dumbledore for help. He's sort of like a double agent. He was a big help to Harry in the seventh book.

I think Snape was truly a hero in the end. Dumbledore was right about him all along, that he'd truly turned away from Voldemort. And even though he really couldn't stand Harry Potter, he did the right thing and held to the plan Dumbledore had begun and protected Harry till the end. That's pretty heroic if you ask me.

Snape is a hero, but not a hero like the one in fairy tales. He loved Lily, and because she died to save Harry, he wanted to save Harry because of his love for Lily. But he never loved Harry because he was so much like his father. After Voldy killed Lily, Snape was no longer on his side, but he pretended to be.Everything was on Dumbledore's order.I was sad when the truth was found out.

I would say so. I mean it sounded to me like Snape might have even loved Harry (he probably wouldn't ever admit it out loud). I was actually sad when he died. The first guy who answered said it pretty well.

Tragically flawed hero. Loved Lily, but couldn't love her son because he was James' child. yet, he agreed to protect Harry and spy on Voldy for Dumbeldore. So in the end, he gave his life for the "good side".
