Customize it more instead of just using a default layout you downloaded and installed off the web.
Add more color and contrast. Add more images and use less advertising or at least less obvious advertising.
Make the pages pass the W3C validations for both HTML and CSS. If you really want to work hard at it consider implementing a table less design as tables are not meant to be sued for positioning that is what CSS is there for.
