there's alot of ways to do that.
observe them when you're talk to them and how they react, and especially when they're speaking to you of course. but try to see what "vibes" you pick up on them or "aura" you feel from them when you make eye contact, ask them about themselves, watch their mannerisms when ya'll talk, just try atleast a few of those or as much as you can when you see them, and see if you find an uneasy feeling or a confortable reasonable feeling to them.
most of all don't put anything in positve or negative perspective, just put it for what it is

You can't! Mental patients fake out professionals every day. Really, depending on what's going on in our life, none of us are of sound mind ALL of the TIME! Really, you can tell more by watching and listening but still...there is no for sure way to know if someone is of sound mind. Be open minded but not ignorant. Time is probably the best way to eventually know.

Study the legal definition of "sound mind". That is the only criterion involved. In all less formal cases, you get what you get.
Sometimes you know somebody for years before you find out they are nuts.

Ha...define sound mind?
if you are a car nut..or sport not..or bible student
or a mom of young kids, or whatever..some folks are self centered..some are centered in about their job or hobby or how they look..or sound.some are self centered of what they know is better than yours..even though you're solution is perfect for you..you want to cut the grass this way..not that way..is a good example of a fickle person.
there are folks who are perfectionist.
some are completely lazy.
some are spoil..
so in truth..very very few people are soundmind..here in this world.
people who are GIVER..are the most possiblity to be "SOUNDMIND".
folks who are taker..or self seeking pleasure or justice..or pride.or lust..on and on.
folks who GIVE..are the one i believe i can say..are soundmind..like CHRIST is soundmind..surrender self..and took our place on the cross and set us free..of spiritual emotional physical bondage..yet..knowledge of HOW TO>.is the christain resposiblity..mixed with we submit and HE does the rest..so it easier than ya think..of somethings.
anyway..as for general populaiton..culture create a child to be timid or violence...or expoloritive..or rebellious.
from their upbringing or the school..or the peers they hang out with..even work enviroment..play a part too.
everybody got a quirk..flaw or oddity about themselves.
and that what make them..who.and what they are.
there are 4 kinds of personality..mixed it up..you got 16 kinds of mixture of personality..out of 4 basic kind. i don't recall their names..joyce meyer taught me that.decade ago. oh..male and female think differently too..as you've probably already know that.

Ask them if they think they are crazy.
If they answer "yes" they're sane.
If they are spacey and don't hear the question or if they get angry. or if they say no, then they may be.
You can't be crazy if your aware that you might be.....
