oh hon go share with her. shes waiting for this ya know. simply just say "mom i have finally reached that age in my life that you talked to me about. can we please go to the store so you can show me my options on what to use."
this is a good time to start talking to mom on an adult level. before you know it you might be needing her for other issues as well. start now so that when the time comes to talk about birth control or whatever it will be easy. and that is a definate must do.
my daughter and i can talk anything. when she started her period i was at a candle party. she was ok going to dad. as she got older she wasn't afraid to ask about birth controls. i would so much rather her be safe than sorry and if it means i gotta know what i don't want to know then so be it.

I personally think the best way is just to go up to her and say i got my period and wait for her reaction. If your uncomfortable with that write a note to her explaining the situation and leave it in a place only she will find it. Or you could ask to go shopping with her and casually slip in some period protection into the cart to bring up the subject. If she has a cell phone, you could leave her a message, or send her an email. Just do whatever is most comfortable for you. Don't wait, its just gets harder carrying around the weight, once you tell her you'll feel much better. Hun, she wont be mad i mean your her daughter and your just entering woman hood. She will want to help. go and tell her!
good luck and congratulations!

You say Hey mom I got my period! Then she will take you out on some dorky shopping trip or something. That is how most women I know handle it. Your mom will want to know so she can gush about how you have become a little woman, and then she'll want to have 'the talk'. So just tell her outright and let her do her mom thing. If you don't she will be hurt.

You just tell her. Call her in to your room or whatever, and tell her that it happened. I know it can be hard, but just do it. And she'll be more than willing to help you. It will be embarassing at first, but just think, this is the only time it will happen. After this, it can just be a fact that you get your period and that's that. Not even your mom needs to know after this. Best of luck.

This is how it went down with me. I found out I got my period at home. I immediately put a new pair of undies on and a pad that mom had in her drawer.
Mom comes home.
"Mom, I think I got my period"
(she does a quick look, yup I got my period)
"Oh! Ok! Do you need anything?"
"nope"
"ok great! we'll get you more pads later"

most moms already know..trust me..when i got mine in 5th grade, i came home from school and my mom said "Did you get your period?" But just in case your mom isnt that observent, you should tell her. and you can tell her with out really telling her. you can say something like "Mom, i think i might need a pad"..she will know what happened

Say mom I got my period. Don't be embarrassed, your mom is a woman and she's has a period as well; so she'll understand. Now you'll have a girly non-guy thing in common. (-:

It happens to everyone and it's no big deal. Just tell her. You need to get used to talking to your mother. She's been there and done everything you will think of doing and has learned a lot. She'll help you out all through your teens if you open up to her plus she'll be ever so glad you talk to her. Remember there will never be anyone else that will love you just like your mother. . .

Don't fret about it..It's no big deal and every girl goes through it. Just be like "Mom, I started my period." and you're done. Now, I was lucky enough not to get a speech, let's hope you are too. xD The directions on the boxes are all you need. (lol)

Do yourself a favor and find a private moment and say "Mom I just got my period." Trust me, she won't be surprised. And she can offer you some advice on how to deal with your period.
