I just got my ASUS M2R32-MVP motherboard today and I installed everything off the disk that came with it, but whenever I try to install the sound driver, it says the hardware isn't available, but I know it's there because it's built right into the motherboard. What do I need to do to get the sound working?

Edit: I already checked the BIOS to make sure the sound card was enabled and I already tried downloading the newest drivers from the manufacturer's website. Thanks for your help though.

OK, how about trying this.

Disable first ALL startups in msconfig. Install the driver. Check and test sound in dxdiag. Once ok, enable the startups again in msconfig.

Built-in sound hardware is probably the most notorious fault on new motherboards. Nevertheless, there are some things that you can check.

1) Make *certain* that the sound hardware is enabled in the BIOS setup program (usually hit Esc on boot when the screen tells you to)
2) Download the latest drivers from the MB mfg web site. Make certain that the drivers are for your MB model.

I hope this helps.

You may have gotten a bad motherboard with a defective sound card.

Try to install the driver from your disk, or try downloading an updated driver. If those don't work, try installing a separate
pci sound card
