We are being charge for towing and storage fees from the tow yard when the police recovered our stolen vehicle. It was found in a persons backyard and when the officer called us on a friday at 8:30pm, my husband asked if he can come pick up the truck, officer said no he has to tow it because he has to book it. No one told us we would have to pay for the towing and storage fees. All the officer said was " you have to go down to the FMT police tomorrow and we will give you the release form and you take that to the tow yard and you can pick up your truck" . We went to the police and signed/received the release form and I asked the clerk is there a charge when we go there to thetow yard? she said no you just take this release form and pick up your truck. Arrived at the tow yard they told uswe have to pay for the towing and storage fees. Police are stating yes it's our responsibilty. Is there anything we can do legally and hold the police or thief responsible for the charges??

Why should the police be responsible for it ? They did their job, and recovered your truck. Perhaps you should seek civil damages from the person who stole it to begin with. Sue him.

The time my SUV became into stolen and recovered they called my authentic away. They towed it to a secure lot by ability of the station. that they had me modern identity and sign some style/s with the intention to launch it. I wasn't charged any towing fee. My insurance did pay for towing from the lot to the restoration save becuase the perp had trashed the ignition component to the guidance column.

Talk to your insurance company. It is cheaper for them to pay the tow charges than reimburse you for a stolen car. If they want to seek compensation from the thief they have their own legal department. Probably a waste of time because he will probably not have any money.
