In a very technical sense, any writing is "copyrighted" to the author - a legally-obtained copyright is only a recognition of the authors' ownership of that intellectual property, obtained either for the purpose of ensuring that no one else utilizes an idea or for the purpose of selling that idea (as both are technically possible, but far more difficult, without obtaining recognition of the copyright). From a purely legal standpoint, yes, copying those papers is plagiarism. Somehow, I don't think the "legal" sense is really what matters here. If these are papers for school, the school will have set the guidelines for what constitutes plagiarism. Most schools will probably say that any paper which was originally written by someone else and then copied to be turned in is plagiarized. Most schools, as well, have strict rules regarding plagiarism - when I was in high school, multiple violations of the plagiarism rules would result in failing grades, suspension, and eventually failure of the class itself. College is even harsher towards plagiarists - I know several people who are graduating late because they were caught plagiarizing and were automatically failed, and had to repeat those classes. There were even a couple of people who were caught twice and expelled. You should probably have a look at your schools' plagiarism policy and advise your friend that copying his brothers' papers is a very poor decision, as it could get him into a great deal of trouble - or simply because the point of the paper is for him to learn, not simply for him to get it done, and while he'll be learning the art of cutting corners and being substandard, he won't grow intellectually.

well first, that would show a lot about the character of the person, because any friend that would ask me to do that obviously wouldnt know me very well because its almost as if their saying that they want a good grade on their paper and they dont care if they risk the chance of you getting in trouble as well.
i would just tell them that you dont think its a good idea and that they should have done the paper before if it is a TERM paper there are no excuses
then go look for some better friends

If you want to do all the work for someone else to get a grade on, that's your choice. It really isn't being fair of a "friend" to put another "friend" in that position to begin with. How can you "forget" a term paper that's due the next day? That's kind of a lame excuse if you ask me. I sure wouldn't want to have done all the hard work, give it to someone else & have them get credit on the work I did. That's honestly being dishonest to begin with. It could be very easy to have "misplaced" that particular paper. Mom could have put it somewhere & you can't find where it is. You could throw it up in the air & not know where it landed & be telling the truth. It's up to you, but I feel you're being taken advantage of. Your friend had the "responsibility" of making sure they had their homework done...you did! Is that really helping them in the long run? The main thing is that it's just plain dishonest as it's not the true work of the one person who shirked their responsibility & is depending on you to "bail" them out. Let your consious be your guide. Comes a time in life where we have to be responsible for ourselves & our actions. Do what you think is the rite thing to do. And, I'm sure it's a difficult decission to make, I trust you make the rite one.

ok well, honestly i think you should say hey look i kno ur my best friend and all but maybe you should write your own paper because i spent my time on my exam and i think that it wouldnt be fair if you took my credit and maybe you should have thought about it a couple days ago instead of waiting last min. and id think that maybe you should tell him that the teacher may remeber what you wrote and still he should write his own

This person is not really your best friend. Just say no to your "friend." Friends wouldn't ask for this. Every school has different consquences if found out. Use you best judgement. Don't let your friend copy.

say no, especially to a term paper, your education is importand and you cant get a bad rep because a "friend" puts you on the spot. let them know that you dont like being put on the spot like that and if they are a "friend" they will respect that.
friends dont USE friends

Awww, cmon, you know the answer to this one. If you give it to him, you might get caught and expelled. Even if you don't, you're going to know you cheated for him and it will damage the friendship.
If you don't give it to him, he'll either get mad or he won't. If he gets mad, he was never really your friend, and you don't need friends like that anyway.
When you have kids, would you advise them to hang out with people who ask them to cheat????

I would tell them no. If they were really my friend they wouldn't put me in that predicament in the first place.
