I think everyone is telling you to bring too much stuff.

Birth is messy. Wear the hospital gowns and robes--why spend your first days home trying to salvage your own clothes? Also, wear the weird mesh panties and use the enormous hospital pads. You'll bleed a LOT, and those are perfect. Bring a nursing bra, even if you're not planning to nurse: the compression feels good when your milk comes in, and they sure make it easier to learn to nurse. You may or may not need nursing pads. That's another reason to wear the hospital gowns! If you DO need nursing pads, you can send someone out for them.

Hospitals are cold. Bring socks. Bring extra, in case you bleed all over them when you stand up.

Bring a simple outfit for your baby and a car seat. The hospital will provide everything else for baby.

Bring a toothbrush, lip balm, stuff to take a shower.

Bring a magazine or two: you'll be tired, and it might be hard to read something substantial, but hanging at the hospital is boring, too.

Bring a list of phone numbers, and a digital camera.

And that's it. If you decide you must have something else, you can always send your husband or a friend to get it.

If you bring too much junk, you'll just have to haul it all home with you, and you'll have your hands plenty full when you leave!

For me, I followed a list in the "What to Expect When You're Expecting" book. I only need the toiletries. I ended up with a C-Section, so staying in the hospital gown and undies for four days was more comfortable. I wore my own jammies home. I used my soap, shampoo, toothbrush and the like when I showered. Of course bring the things you want personalized such as the baby book. Also bring a camera or video camera. If you don't have a C-Section you'll more than likely be in the hospital a short time, so you don't need four jammy sets, undies, etc. Hope this helps. Good luck and congrats.

Ok so what I didnt realize I would need is TONS of extra thick extra long pads, i know its gross but you will bleed. You might want to take your own pillow cause the hospital pillows suck. Take a couple of outfits for you and for the baby, like three or four. Oh yeah and dont forget shampoo, toothpaste, that kinda stuff. The hospital will provide you with diapers and stuff but you may want to take your own. And no one ever told me this but my son only weighed 6 lbs 10 ozs and newborn clothes were HUGE on him, so i had to get a couple of preemie outfits to hold him over until he got big enough. One last thing, take lots of snacks, they wouldnt let me eat anything the whole time i was in labor, 14 hours, and you will be starving.....good luck!!!!

Ummm---didn't the hospital or your doctor give you a list?
I always bring a robe (for the bed or for walking), socks/slippers/flipflops (also for walking), clean outfit or 2 for yourself and the baby, maybe one or two for the man who will be with you.
You need to bring your carseat. (suggest bringing it into the room when time comes to leave because adjusting them can be a pain in the patootie). A camera, of course --- money for food/drinks if there is a cafe or something. Puzzle books or something to keep you busy if you need it. Something to entertain the guy. Toiletries, but just the very basic stuff, you dont have time for the spa :) And whatever you think will be absolutely necessary past that but I think I covered it all.
The hospital should be able to provide you with whatever else you need for the baby, diapers, wipes, formula if necessary, etc.
Hope this helps!! Good luck!

This list might sound like a lot but really isn't...!.....

1-2 large packs maternity pads
5 pairs larger sized knickers that you would be okay with to throw out if they get really messed up (from bleeding)
3 changes clothes(if you want to wear normal through the day and not pj's all day), warmer ones like pants and long sleeved tops because it gets cool in the hospital. Dark coloured pants in case of leakage. Stuff you wore at about 5-6mths preggo will fit over bulgy tummy.
3 Pairs pyjamas same as above.
Socks
Slippers
nursing bras
Toiletries, shampoo, cond, toothpaste/brush, hair brush, spare hair ties, soap, make up opt.
Your pillow if you want to be more comfy
books, mags, for those times you can't sleep and baby is sleeping.

Change of clothes for hubby/birth partner in case they are in the shower with you or stay for a long time.
snacks for above

CAMERA!!!
spare change for phone and cafeteria
list of phone numbers (opt)
birth plan if you have one

Blanky for baby, 3-4 changes of clothes/onesies/outfits for bubs, nappies and wipes if not provided at hosp.
Special coming home outfit for bubs

all in all just take what you might normally take for a 3 day stay anywhere (hotel, parents whatever) and you should be right. If you get there and think of something then ask someone who is coming to visit or when hubby goes home to change/sleep etc...get them to pick up whatever you need.

Just don't forget the camera or buy a disposable one if you don't have one!

Best of luck and fingers crossed bub arrives soon for you!

i never packed until i went into labor (i have 4 kids and a 5th on the way)

basically you need a car seat and going home outfit for the baby, a blanky and if you want tthe baby to have a particular kind of pacifier... the hospital will provide diapers, wipes etc.

you will want to have a robe, jammies, stuff to do like cards, books, movies, etc., slippers, pads, nursing bra and nursing pads, soap, shampoo etc, camera and accessories.

don't take too much because they will give you tons of stuff and it will be a lot to take home.

Don't be alarmed, I have been dilated a 1 cm for the past 3 weeks. It doesn't mean anything, your body could dilate several cm in a few hours.
