Take a moment and look at it this way ( it worked for me) there are 365 days a year 52 weeks in a year. So 14 days or 2 weeks a year( not 2 weeks straight that would be crazy) I can put on a smile and deal with it.

I had an aunt that was horrible-right along with her children. They were awful as children and they are awful as adults. How can an adult still be mad at you for that snipe hunting trip? And my sister was 5 years older and in charge, but they still hold it against me and refused to see me the last time I went home. I visited my aunt and kept in touch with her because it was what my mother would have wanted. My mother passed away years ago, very young. My aunt would write me terrible letters accusing me of terrible things that weren't true. Even so, when she passed away I missed her. She was as close to my mother as I was going to get. Just remember that you can't choose your relatives so you tolerate them. You know exactly what to expect of them so don't let them suck you dry. Protect yourself. Learn to love them for exactly who they are and forgive them for all the stuff. Can you imagine living an entire life like my aunt did. That must have been horrible for her. Sometimes people only do the best they can-even tho' it doesn't seem to be much. They just don't know any better. Learn to deal with them. You know what to expect so why do they bother you? You need to take control of the situation when they come to visit. I used to chide my aunt and say, "Now Auntie *** you know that isn't so. Or that didn't happen like that. And just smile. Once she learned she had no affect on me, she lightened up (except for those letters) and she was interesting to be with. She knew all those old family stories I was too young to remember. Hang in there.
