Also, I have made a toddy of about 15 crushed peppermints with about 1 cup of lemon juice and they soak to make a (throat medicine) it has not helped yet. A jar full of it. I also do the honey. Another thing I work in the gym with a watercooler fan, in the bible belt. So we have many temp ranges this last month. No avail, I cannot sing in the chior because I sound like a beginner violin player only with my VOICE!

Gargle with warm salt water is one of the best remedies and I also use juice of 1 lemon ( not concentrate) in hot water with either honey or maple syrup and at least 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper. keep it stirred up and let the pepper lay on the throat. I have been singing all my life and these are the two remedies i use with success.

I traveled, played guitar and sang for living for over 20 years and always found that the only way to break up the hoarseness and keep it away is, while singing, never drink ice cold drinks, but sip on hot tea or hot lemon juice with honey. If you lose your voice, do the same thing but keep putting hot wet towels on your throat till it breaks up.

I know there is a product that you can purchase at many health food stores called "Singers Saving Grace." I know quite a few people(ranging from opera singers to pianist/performer) who have used it & swear by it. It's made by "Herbs Etc." You might be able to find it somewhere online too.I personally used to sing opera & when I was hoarse I drank straight black coffee. That helped clear out any mucus, but it doesn't really soothe too well.
