Hi,
what makes us mortal is our ultimate destination: death. Pain is a part of life as is heartache, happiness, sadness, joy, fun and laughter. Maybe all these ingredients and more, when mixed together are what make us mortal. There are different types of pain. Physical. Emotional. A work of art might express the artist's pain and might touch something in someone else's heart. If this ties them to this piece of art, can the artist let go of his work, of the creative manifestation of his pain, without looking back? Only the artist can say.

pain is what reminds me that my art should be cutting the ties. mortal, immortal, looking back or forward is irrelevant. so are "others" in this respect.

Embodiment makes us mortal. The spirit is already eternal, so we don't need to do anything other than recognize the spirit to be immortal in that sense.

Yes but I believe even the god's would feel pain such as Mother Nature for example with all the people polluting her planet.

Pain (physical) is our body's way of telling us we did something stupid. But if we didn't do anything stupid, and if we truly believe this, then we can actually convince our body to make the pain go away! Unfortunately, if we actually do something stupid, it hurts twice as much.
