On Wednesday the Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas ran the headline IVF IS ALWAYS CONSIDERED A SIN over a front-page story. The paper reported that the bishop of Portugal’s armed forces, Dom Januário Torgal Mendes Ferreira, had commented on the “immorality” of the McCann’s use of IVF treatment, which the Roman Catholic Church officially condemns.
Well, how unbiased and sensible THAT is, I don't think

I don't give much credit to the Portuguese newspaper. The media needs to back off and let the police conduct the investigation. All the media does is make the case biased. If the McCanns are guilty, then we all hope they are brought to justice, but if they're not then hopefully they won't be charged. The newspapers need to understand they are not judge and jury. They are only there to report facts that are released to them by the police. Made up stories are not needed in these cases.

This is neither biased nor unbiased. They are simply reporting fact.
The Catholic church DOES vehemently oppose the use of IVF for its followers and you could in actual fact say that the Portuguese Press are simply reporting the hypocrisy of the McCanns who have advocated their "devout" Catholicisim from day one even going on to kiss the hand of the Pope. Furthermore, this article will not change the opinion of those who already support the Mcanns [if they truly support the McCanns] nor will it influence people who oppose them as antis have always been aware of the inconsistencies which exist within the McCann camp!

Isn't the press simply reporting what the bishop said. Portugal is a Catholic country. Perhaps some are upset that the McCanns went against the teachings of the church by using IVF but have also used religion for their own purposes ( Gerry's blogging about pop-in visits to church and their visit to the Pope ) however justified.

Aren't they just reporting facts, the McCanns claim to be devout Catholics. Fact the Catholic Church is opposed to IVF, fact the McCanns had IVF. I don't see how this proves bias or am I missing something.
My experience of Portuguese Catholics is that they don't take a 'pick and mix' approach to religion as some people do.

My opinion on Portugese people in general is unmentionable. I have owned a holiday apartment in Portugal for years now, and the majority of Portugese people treat British tourists like dirt. They are quick enough to take your money, but they are generally rude, and unhelpful. I shop at the supermarket in Praia-da-Luz, and the staff are so rude and un-cooperative, they literally throw my change at me. In my eyes, the McCanns don't stand a chance with these people.
