Brook Benton had a way with a song..so effortlessly sung, his range was incredible, and please note...NO lapel microphones, only a boom over head for all that sound...those were the days when singers were actually, (god forbid) expected to have voices! And he had one of the most unusual voices in the business..from bass to tenor, not breaks in the range..yes, truly unique. This was one of his biggest hits. He also sang with Dinah Washington, a very good singer that died well before her time. This was from the golden era of rock and roll, and yet here was Brook, singing love ballads that rose very hign on the charts. They just don't make them like that anymore..terrific range AND terrific control..all in one person!

Yes, I do remember Brook Benton, and the Ed Sullivan show was a staple in our house on Sunday nights. I seem to remember a couple of songs he did with Dinah Washington too in the late 50's or early 60's. Then later, A Rainy Night in Georgia, is what I remember him for.

The wonderful Brook Benton, .." It's just a matter of time".
If only some of those fantastic singers from the 'old' days
had gotten even half of the recognition that some of the bad singers of today get. How many nights I layed across my bed listening to songs like this as I did my homework.
Thanks for the memories......

Thanks for sharing! I loved that! Unfortunately that was before my time, but I do love that style of music... almost like Nat King Cole. That's going on my ipod soon!
