Most tattooists will not tattoo you when pregnant. It is not the ink that is dangerous (it only penetrates the dermal layers of the skin). It is the risk of infection after the tattoo is done and in the healing process. Any time you get a tattoo it can become infected even if you do take really good care of it. That infection can be harmful to your baby. So, it's not a good idea until after the baby is born. If you already have done it unknowingly please follow these instructions:
Wash your tattoo with anti-bacterial liquid soap 3 times daily. First wash your hands! And always wash your hands before touching the tattoo. If your tattoo is in a hard to reach area like your back and you need assistance, be sure that whoever else touches you washes their hands first, then cleans your tattoo.
Pat dry with a paper towel.
Moisture is the key to good healing! For the 1st 24 hrs, use A and D ointment or Neosporin cream.... Put a light layer on the tattoo.
Do not cover it. Do not use too much ointment. Do not use vasaline as this will pull the ink out of it.
After 24 hrs use Aveeno lotion daily after washing the tattoo to keep it moist.
Do this for 7-10 days (more if you're skin is very dry).
Do not scratch or pick it as it will itch. Not only would that screw up your tattoo, it gives you a higher risk of infection.
Very Best Wishes!

no it doesn't. most parlors will not give a pregnant woman a tattoo knowingly. The reason they don't is because of the risk of blood infection and hepatitis. I got one the day before I found out I was pregnant, I was only about 4 weeks, but if I would have gotten an infection, it would have harmed the baby. I would have never knowingly done it and I hope you wouldn't either.

These days, the chances of infection are really slim if you take it to a reputable shop, but that does not mean you should not just wait until you've had your baby.

Only if you contract a disease or get an infection...I wouldn't advise it unless you just got a tattoo and didn't know you were pregnant...if that's the case, take very good care of it!
