- Kobe has averaged the most number of points in the league in the 4th quarter (fact)
- Only star player to anchor both the offense and defense (fact)
- Only player in the league now who demands a triple team 27-30 feet from the basket with the shot clock going off (fact)
- top 20 in assists? (fact)...not bad while being surrounded by average teammates

well lets not forget, in 2005 right after shaq left, kobe did average a career high 6.1 assists per game...we all know how that turned out - NO PLAYOFFS

was he the first one ever in the history of NBA to call out his teammates?
why is it that when he asks them to step up thru the media its considered insulting, but when Larry Bird does it (he dissed them after a loss in the finals in the 80...can't remember which one) its considered a challenge to his teammates?

well as the leader of the team what do you expect him to do, take a back seat?
of course as a franchise player, he's taking the initiative to lead in the clutch
Laker fans would rather see him shoot most of the time in the 4th than not considering the amount of success he's had
He has just as many turnovers as Lebron and Wade and those guys handle the ball as much (if not more) so aren't those ball hogs? Lebron after all averages only .6 assists more than kobe last year?

first of all...just because i disagree with you, it doesn't give you the right to name calling (At least a half dozen times). that was uncalled for.
Like I said Laker fans would rather see him take the shots and fail then NOT TAKE IT AT ALL
Your fact about Kobe not having one single assist is incorrect...remember the lob from Kobe to shaq in the last play of the wcf 2000 against portland in game 7?
it makes sense that he gets more opportunities since Lakers (With their average supporting cast) do play close games all the time, they don't blow anyone out and get blown out very rarely
oooo 6.1 assists big deal....1 is gonna make a huuuge difference
You think Lebron's .6 more apg than Kobe is "MUCH HIGHER"....are you freakin kidding me?
oh btw get some haterade on your way out...

No one ever considers that Kobe doesn't have a finisher like a Shaq, Stoudamire, D. Howard or a KG to get assist to in the paint.
Nor did he have any dead on 3 point shooters. All he had were Sasha Vujacic (hardly consistant), Radmanovic (Phil Jackson himself called this guy a space cadet) and Smush Parker (what a joke).
Kobe averaged 5.3 assist per game with those players? Yet people are still hating? Truth is, Kobe desperately tries to get these guys involved; you can pass the ball to these guys all day, but you can't score for them!

First you're the one one considering that, moment if I had to make use of the identical mentality of "if" if this if that then Kobe might be the excellent participant ever, what if he did not Shaq? Do you understand how many extra aspects he might have scored is his profession, Iverson was once the one superstar for the sixers he is not the form of participant that may are compatible right into a workforce, workforce's bought to suit round him, he could not even win a playoff sequence in Denver with Melo. Defense allow's speak approximately it main in thieve does not imply you're high-quality defender, Wade, Lebron and so on have high-quality stats steals shrewd but there're now not part the defender Kobe is, Iverson will have to now not also be in that dialog, he under no circumstances locked any one down like Kobe has over time, I imply he is a nine occasions all NBA shielding workforce but you are not able to admit he is high-quality, BTW this was once voted through journalist from across the nation. Dude give up it!

He does pass the ball, his career average in assist is 4.5 per game, so he is not a complete ballhog. He is even a better passer than the Lakers returning longtime point guard Derek Fisher who got a career 3.3 assists per game, and Kobe is a shooting guard.
But the question if he makes his teammates better is highly questionable? After Shaq left the Lakers, they become just an average, ordinary team that advanced to the playoff at the bottom half of the seedings (they even not a playoff team during the Lakers first season without Shaq). So he still needs to impress his critics here. With the Lakers current line-up, and if he carried this team into let say, at least the 4th seed in the West playoff this season, then I can say that Kobe can carry his team to victory and can somewhat makes them better.

1. I think Kobe passes the ball to his teammates usually when the play has broken down.
2. I don't think he makes his teammates better. More than once he has publicly called out his teammates. That doesn't create better teammates. It creates ill will and resentment.
3. As the Lakers are currently constructed and considering the state of the Lakers payroll and salary cap; I don't think the Lakers are better off without him. But things can change.

Thinks? Yeah, I think that.
I do not think the LAL would be better off. They'd be worse. At least they are a playoff team with Kobe. Then again the Lakers are not about just making the playoffs.
I would not bet against Kobe waking up this season and playing better. I think the Oly qualifying experience helped seeing J-Kidd up close show how it's done.

I like to use Kwame Brown as an example. His hands are small, smaller than normal. He can't catch the ball worth the crap. You'd think he'd know how to grip the ball, if he got the ball enough. The Lakers are only winning because Kobe is keeping the ball virtually to himself throughout the game. If the Lakers were Kobe-less, they'd be an endagered franchise.

About Shaq's trade:
Sure, Buss masterminded the trade, but he done it because Kobe wanted him to and with Kobe's support.
Read this: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/basketball/nba/10/12/jackson/index.html

About Kobe's assists:
Kobe does pass. However, Kobe tends to pass as the very last option. Kobe holds the ball until there's 8 seconds left and then he passes. And other times when Kobe passes is when the team is losing so badly, Kobe wants to take no fault in defeat, so he passes a lot. How's that for building team chemistry? Has Kobe ever tried to make his teammates look good?
________________
Going off-topic:
I've mentioned many times that the Lakers have a winning record without Kobe, like 15 out of 23 or something, I forgot, but they have a losing record without Lamar, 17 out of 49 or something like that. I can click on my 360 profile and look, but it's late and I'm lazy. Maybe the sample size is too small, maybe it's early in the season so no one cared about losing to the Lakers, who knows. But I'm making the assumption that, to the Lakers, Lamar Odom's presence is more valuable than Kobe's presence. A lot of people may disagree. Sure, I understand that you're a Kobe fan, and you think Kobe is better than Odom. But when people claim Odom suck and ask that Odom be traded, I'm like what's wrong with you! With Odom on the court, the Lakers actually have a winning record! Like 10 games over half! With Kobe, the Lakers have a losing record, like 15 games under half.
______________
Back to the assists...
No one can expect Kobe to make Kwame Brown better. Kwame is a total bust. But Kobe isn't helping Luke Walton or Andrew Bynum get better. We have Lebron trying to make a third round draft pick into a superstar. Kobe hasn't even tried making anyone into a superstar. Is Boobie Gibson better than Luke?
_____________
Kobe making them better:
Someone mention Kobe's teammates is having career years... well, duh! Every player is bound to get better every year until they fall out of their prime. It has nothing to do with Kobe. Why give Kobe credit where he doesn't deserve. If Kobe is really making his teammates better, then he probably would know Andrew Bynum is on his team, but he apparently doesn't. Kobe may have many skills in basketball, but teamwork is definitely not one of them. Teamwork is one of the greatest area of basketball; over half of basketball is teamwork. And if Kobe lacks the skills in teamwork, he definitely cannot be the most talented player.
Ask Phil Jackson if Kobe is making them a better team. And I'll just quote Phil Jackson for my last remark, "I have to question his vision. When there's three guys wide-open and he's still taking taking the shots, I'll have to question his vision." Kobe either has a "vision" problem, or he's just a ballhog.

If you watched Team USA in FIBA, Kobe was in situations where he could've passed the ball to an open teammate, but he didn't. LeBron or Melo would've.

I don't think, I know.
1. Because Kobe turns the ball over a lot trying to be a ballhog. (fact)
2. Because Kobe shoots worse than his teammates shoot. (fact)
3. Because Kobe shoots at the league average for his career. (fact)
4. Because Kobe's number of shot attempts leads the league year in and year out. He takes an unacceptable amount of shots. (fact)
5. Because Kobe's assists numbers are nothing great, especially for the amount of ball possession he has. (fact)
Deal with the facts.
