The Trixie Belden books are quite similar to Nancy Drew, in that Trixie is a teen sleuth. Also good for kids are the Happy Hollister books. The Hollisters are five brother and sisters (Pete, Pam, Ricky, Holly and Sue) who like to solve mysteries. There are a couple of websites devoted to these two series:

Trixie Belden: http://www.trixie-belden.com/index.html

The Happy Hollisters: http://happy-hollisters.com/

Happy reading to you! :-)

It depends on whether the kid is a boy or a girl. Both series are the creations of the same syndicate, and the one Hardy Boys book I read had much the same flavor as the Nancy Drew books. However, if that kid is a girl, I would recommend the Judy Bolton series rather than Nancy Drew. The author Margaret Sutton, was a real person, and Judy and her friends also seemed much more real than the Nancy Drew crowd.

I'm hoping you mention them because you've already read them. Nancy Drew is the best mystery book series for kids. If you haven't, then take the time. It's worth it.

When I was about nine and a half I started to read adapted versions of Sherlock Holmes. Also try the Gilda Joyce series -- probably the most hilarious kid's mysteries to date.

They have reissued the Trixie Belden series with new, hip covers in hardcover. My 11 year old loves them. My 12 year old niece really loves Agatha Christie...some things never go out of style.
