I am also in the International Baccalaureate Program (even though i may not spell it right).

I know UF accepted about 1150 IB students during the 2004-2005 school year; however, I have also heard that they cut down on letting in IB students. Also, many of the IB students at my school last year did not get accepted at UF with average scores.

I pay special attention to extra-curricualr activities and I have emphasized my quality leadership positions in a limited number of clubs. I know having too many clubs looks kinda tacky.

I have a cousin at UF but i have heard that only immediate family is considered as alumni.

I really want UF to be my primary college and want to be accepted into the honors program. I plan to take the ACT's tomorrow and again in October. Also i will be taking the SAT's again to crack 1400. I got a 2010 composite after taking it twice.

Also, will the ACT that i take in October be accepted as part of my application? Or is that too late?

Thank you

I am currently a sophomore in UF studying pre-medicine, and I believe you have a really good chance, but you also do have a little risk of not getting in.

If you are an IB student, you do have some good advantage over others, but your SAT score must exceed 1360/1600 to get 8/8 on UF's admission scoring system in SAT. Now I am not sure whether you are in the 1220~1360 range or 1360 to 1600 range. If you belong to the first one, then you have 5/8. I was in this range as well, but I still got in because English was my second language, and I took fifteen AP courses and acquired 48 college credits to compensate this. But try to score 1400, because this would allow you to apply for the Honors Program as well.

Taking ACT or SAT on October, If you are applying for Early Decision, then I suggest you to take SAT or ACT as early as possible and send them. It's completely fine if you are doing regular decision. As long as you take those exams before December and send them to UF, they are going to be accepted since the regular decision application is due January 15th. Not only with this, you may take SAT on January and still send it to the admission office.. But just make sure that you call them, so the higher SAT score is recorded on your account.

Your GPA is very similar to mine and higher than UF's average GPA of 4.1. So that could be considered as one of your strengths. If you are the TOP 5% in your class, then you would get a lot of points from UF admission.

Now speaking of your extra curricular activities, Are in playing any sports? Have you done any volunteer works? These are good extra curricular activities besides clubs, so make sure you include them as well. It's actually good to be in many clubs, because It makes you look like a well-rounded student. You must emphasize your leadership positions in clubs, so try to apply through online, and if the space provided is not enough for you, then make a good looking resume and send it to the admission office via mail. Obtain about two or three recommendation letters from teachers who like you. (I sent five letters including my guidance counselor lol.) You better ask now, because teachers need time to write as well. It's better to get teachers from hard core AP /IB classes during your 10th to12th grade. Send them to admission office with your good looking extracurricular activity resume.

Now application essays, these are really important. Most people who don't care about these would fail to get in. Don't make them typical. Don't describe yourself as a typical IB student from Florida. Pick up some college application essay books from your local book stores. Those books have really good essays from students who got into Ivy leagues. Most students who apply to TOP state universities and Ivy Leagues spend about two months on their essays. Try to get some proof reading done from your AP/IB English teachers. There is an application essay correction website www.essayedge.com but you pay like $100 per one essay, so it's up to you. I used it since I am not that a good writer, and it was pretty good.

I hope that these tips would help you to get in. I know that these are a lot of works, but you are trying to attend one of the Nation's TOP states, and the best university in Florida for almost free. I believe it's worthy to invest your effort and maximize your chance of admission. Good luck to you!

Hell yes, you will.

People with much lower scores who don't do a damn thing besides go to school and sit at home for their high school careers have gotten into UF.

Just be sure to submit your application somewhat early, and include all of your extracurriculars and outside activities when you submit it.

I'm fairly certain that the ACT you take in October will be accepted. Some people wait that long before they even apply. (Though I can't say for sure they get accepted.) Maybe as a precaution you could notify them that your ACT score will be coming in soon, so that they can make a note of it on your application.

Many, many IB students from my IB class who applied to UF did not get in. Many.
I did not get into UF, but I also talked about semi-colons in my essay, which is not relevant to the question and I wrote it ten minutes before the last application deadline (I did not want to go but my dad made me apply, so I put forth no effort...at all).

Your ACT score should be counted.

Your scores are not amazing, but they are by no means terrible. Focus immensely on making your essay amazing and unique. You will probably get in, but do not make the mistake of relying on UF, as some people did, because there is always that opportunity that you will not get in.

If the 1360 is out of 1600 -- then you can probably do better than the University of Florida. If it is out of 2400, then you will have some problems.

Raise that SAT score. It's not good enough for most of those schools. Once you get 2100+, apply to UC-Berkeley!!
