A constant is a number or term that never changes.

In your case, "3" is the constant. The term 5*x will always be changing because of x. The 3 will always stay as a positive 3.

--> The term without the variable is the constant.

Constant terms are fixed in value and variable terms can change in value. Here 3 is the constant term. 5x is the variable term because as the value of x changes the value of 5x changes.

Most of the the time, letters and symbols are variables but not always e.g. pi is a constant.
