i have thoughts that it might be my router ports...

Your router doesn't map ports to your system. Enable DMZ and or NAT on your router and set your system IP address as DMZ Host.

You're exactly right. You will need to open ports. You would need to those out from the manufacturer. It sounds like have an Xbox 360. I think the ports for that are 88 and 3074 (TCP and UDP)

try changing the internet connection speed in the options menu. the default connection speed might be to high or to low for your real connection speed.

if you dont know your connection speed, go here. speedtest.net
