It is true that someone wrote something like that, or at least it got translated like that in some editions of the Bible, but how does "having dominion" give one the right to abuse animals? That interpretation makes about as much sense as the interpretation that the Constitution means individuals have a right to own and kill each other with guns.

If you think Christians are bad, you should see what Jews do.

I have no religious affiliation and my opinions on this are unbiased.

I can honestly say that this is not true.

There are numerous religions that practiced animal sacrifice and other such things, but those practices have become very uncommon.

And as for your comment on the Bible, may I point out, that the Bible is a very, very old book? Many of the things that the Bible says it is OK to do were relevant to the time period, but are not acceptible in today's society.

I don't agree that people are better than animals.
However, I also don't agree with the question, "Why do Christians abuse, torture and eat animals?"

In fact, I'm sure the majority of Christians have never once in their life seen an animal slaughtered.

This is redicullous. If you seriously think that Christians are the only ones who do such a thing you should be banned from these message boards for discrimination.

Just for the record, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, etc. etc. all eat animals!!!!!

Having dominion and torturing animals are not synonyms, nor are the constitution and killing eachother. Before you get banned, I would advise looking up the definition of Christian. Notice that it has nothing to do with torturing animals. Thanks for your understanding.

Because eating nothing but vegetables is boring. There is nothing like a good cut of ribs drowned in BBQ sauce. And I dont know if the animal was was slaughtered by Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Shintos, or Wiccans. Who cares as long as it is tender and juicy?

If it was tortured it probably had to go through that karma to reach its next life stage of reincarnation and come back as a vegetable only to find out that vegetarians planned to slaughter it and put it in soup. Oh the horror of being reincarnated on the low end of the food chain!

I have never abused or tortured an animal. I do eat them, but someone else has already killed and packaged it. That animal is dead meat, if I eat it or not. Have you ever swatted a fly or mosquito? Answer this truthfully to yourself. Think about it for awhile. The entire world would be anemic if we didn't eat meat. Sure, there are iron supplements now, but for most of civilization's time, there wasn't.

Before you get all high and mighty on that horse honey, keep in mind that there are alot of christians out there. I'm betting that 3/4 of them aren't abusing any animals, nor do we take pleasure in killing them. Yes, we eat meat, we wear clothes made from animal skin, etc. However, until you are living up in a tree and surviving on nuts and berries alone, along with anything else you grow in a garden....preach to someone else. This sight is for asking questions....if you wanted to rant and rave...go blog somewhere!

God did give man dominion over animals, and teeth designed to eat meat. But that doesn't mean we should (or do) torture them. Perhaps the factory farmers you are highlighting do (I didn't watch) but torturing animals has nothing to do with Christianity.

What does being a Christian have to do with eating and survival? That is something every life does in one way or another. Be careful where you step, you may kill an innocent spider that is patiently preying on an insect to devour. Don't spray your garden with pesticides because it kills insects that are only eating your vegetables to survive. How dare an organic gardners spray garlic on their plants. What are those little critters supposed to eat now. Those cruel cruel humans.

If you want to be vegan, consider also that plants are tortured, abused, killed for food also.
Animals in the wild are tortured and killed by other animals and insect that eat them too so lighten up a little....or eat nothing.

Human beings are "omnivorous" (they eat both plants & animals). Having dominion over the earth means being a "caretaker" (gardener & zookeeper). Sounds like you may have taken something out of context (or someone else did).

If man wasn't meant to eat animals they wouldn't have been made of meat.

I don't care about what the bible says. I know the nature of the beast. Man is an omnivore. We are built to digest meat and vegetables.
