You hear people disparagingly use the phrase against others saying they "Blame America First" and then it makes me think. There simply is no possible way that a country could have gone through the years and not be at fault for SOMETHING. It seems that no matter what the topic when someone brings up how America was at fault for a particular thing there are always the 'Nay' sayers who bring up the "Blame America First" nugget in order to make that person seem Anti-American. As if the U.S. has NEVER done ANYTHING wrong.

Personally I find it important to admit when we've made a mistake. Since that's the first step in not repeating it. There should be nothing Anti-American in an admittance of fault. It happens. The U.S. is a country that is run by HUMANS. Mistakes are inevitable. Why are there people who insist that the U.S. is infallible even when the evidence says otherwise? Is it fear of being considered a 'traitor' by the opposition?

Hey Ruth.

There's no 1 person to pat on the back when the U.S. does something right and doing so is unnecessary. Things SHOULD be done right. We harp on the mistakes because those people who made them refuse to admit it was a mistake. Admit those mistakes and we'll move on. As long as they are denied they run the risk of a repeat and those who see them for what they are DON'T WANT THAT. Get it? No one said that we only make mistakes. Lately however, it seems we've made quite a few that have gone unadmitted. So guess what that causes.

Wake up.

Simple spin. Such talk as yours and mine, as I've asked similar questions, are viewed as dangerous to the republican political hold in Washington DC. They need the war to look important and are not above casting the opposition in a bad light.

As you know there can only be one answer, of course not.

The problem you allude too is that these people must be very insecure for whatever reason .They have to identify with what they perceive as an entity of infallible greatness to give them the stature they lack(or feel they lack). Pointing out something we as a country have done wrong or are not getting right becomes a personal matter to be fought passionately. They are personally offended, belittled, diminished because they somehow think that if their country is so great and infallible, they are too.
The last resort of losers like these or very young children or the feeble minded is to cloud the issue and place blame(insult) on the person pointing out the fault. They never address themself to the issue.

In the old days when a powerful spoiled brat tyrant received a message that he didn't like, the poor messenger was often beheaded. Well, these people are doing just that...killing the messenger and paying no attention to the message!

Hey, we have made so many mistakes that at times I wonder how we are still standing! We are one lucky country, in spite of all of our mistakes! Somehow we manage to undo our mistakes & make things right again, we do learn from our mistakes! Not everyone thinks that we are infallible. Most of us are more than willing to admit our countries mistakes & don't feel like traitors for doing so.

no, there's plenty of times the US has been wrong on issues. I don't tihnk any coutry is always right or always wrong.

Here, I think the amount of right vs wrong depends on the people in offce, and the way the people of the US vote at the time. Before we can correct anything we have to realize that we're wrong in the first place.

No, we are not prefect. Admitting mistakes is the first step to correcting them.

"My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right."
~Senator CARL SCHURZ, remarks in the Senate, February 29, 1872

This is the difference between patriots and nationalists. Nationalists ignore everything after the first semicolon.

Brian response was interesting to me. Few ever here the entire quote, "America, right or wrong, and when its right keep it right, and when its wrong make it right." (I know what point he was making and I agree words mean less then deeds)

The Right likes to use half quotes. Half ideas. I recall after 911 people putting out the flag. I know we did, but many put flags on their pick up trucks. A nice idea, but after a while they continued to fly them long after it long after respect for it would demand that it be taken down.

A republican run government is not human..... They are sub-human and make no mistakes. They do nothing wrong, and cast the blame on anyone but themselves.

I'm with you.... why can't they just admit it? They messed up.

Nope.

but...but...but...what about my country right or wrong?

what about 'love it or leave it'?

and all the other bumper stickers?

and how you're unpatriotic if you don't have an american flag lapel pin, a yellow ribbon magnet on your car, etc....
