When I was a young girl...I used to watch my dad build things and tinker on old radios in the basement. I learned a lot by watching and asking a lot of questions. My dad and I were very close. He taught me to drive stick shift (old VW Bug), and inspired me to play music....mainly guitar. He was a worldy man who had a wealth of information, I miss my dad so much;;;;

The first time I walked through the gates at Bristol Renaissance Faire, it felt as if I had stepped into a world I had dreamed of, full of music and dance, with wonderful sights and friendly people everywhere.

I hate the outdoors and summer weather, but I love this place where I can talk to people and have a sense of belonging that I've never found anywhere else in my entire life. Strangely, I have so many friends there, but we don't know each other by name. A number of them said that they realized this same thing after joining the circuit.

Since I can't walk very far anymore, I find a shady bench under a tree, where I can sit and play my bowed psaltery~all of the traditional songs and ballads I've learned. People stop by to visit me and listen to my music.

Most of my happy memories are there.

A few years back when I started hang gliding I hadn't had a thermal flight yet. I launched from the top of Monument Peak expecting my usual 7 minute sled ride to the LZ 1750 feet below. As I was flying over the 600 foot launch ready to set up my landing approach my vario started beeping, signaling I was in lifting air, and I thought, what the heck, I'll make a couple of 360s. I soared skyward higher than launch for a 40 minute flight. My instructor saw the whole thing and when I landed we were both beaming, and she said "isn't that the best feeling in the world? You did it! You soared!" She handed me an ice cold beer and we sat in the shade while I basked in the afterglow. Ahh, you had to have been there.

My husband and I have been raising two of our grandchildren for a number of years. Our grandson moved in with us when he was 3 months old and we got our granddaughter as soon as she was released from the NICU. She was born two months early.

Well two weeks ago, on her third birthday and right before his forth birthday, at 3:44 p.m. the Judge signed the order giving me and my husband custody of both of them.

That was a very happy memory. Of course with two toddlers living in our house, there are hundreds of happy memories but this one came to mind right away.

A real happy memory was getting over fifty dogs and cats new homes at an adoptathon!

I have so many! Of course just about anything with my children makes me smile! But I also think of moments in my career as a teacher. I remember a student sitting next to me after completing a reading test, scoring several levels higher than on his past ones and saying to me "I can't believe I passed it. I never thought I would get that high, but you always knew I would didn't you?" I was thrilled to tell him, that yes I always knew he would. I have to admit, I shed some happy tears that day!

My two favorite memories. They wouldn't mean anything to anyone else, but to me they were great because it was one of the few times I spent alone with my parents, since I was the youngest of 7 kids.

My dad and I once went grocery shopping and he bought me a Dennis the Menace coloring book. When we came home we watched a show about volcanos and colored.

My mom took me to my friend's house after he moved, but he wasn't home. When we were heading back home I heard my favorite song on the radio.

My single happiest memory was holding my daughter in my arms for the very first time. She was SOOO tiny and I fell head over heels in love with her at that very instant. I will NEVER forget how joyful and happy I was at that moment in my life.

My happiest memories all revolve around x-mas eve at my grand-moms house. ALL of the family came. We all just hung out, ate, opened presents, and listened to good old timey Christmas music. It was sooo much fun. I really miss her.
