Wow, totally unexpected. This is an amazing comeback by Davenport especially the fact that Jankovic is #3. Like others have said, I expect her to break into the top 20 again before the year ends but I do not see her in the top 10. She shows that she still has game and it is great to see a player who has had so much succes in her career back in tennis. Shame for Jankovic but she is still a great player with lots of potential especially the fact that she has played about thirty tournaments and has made either quarters or semis in most of them.

I actually kinda expected it, because Lindsay looked like she was playing really well in her early matches and Jankovic is playing WAY TOO MANY tournaments this year, so by this part of the year she might be running out of gas.
I don't think Jankovic is really wise, because back in May, she was already ranked in the Top 5 in the world, she had been playing three straight clay tournaments (the big ones: Warsaw, Berlin and Rome--she won the Rome title) and she still had to play in a smaller event at Strasbourg - right before Roland Garros!! She should play less events, much less, next year, to be able to continue playing well throughout the season. I mean, since Wimbledon she hasn't won a title, but before Wimbledon she has won four..

I didn't find this surprising, because Lindsay is a very strong player on hard court and also carpet. She always has had enough power to beat Jelena Jankovic on this surface. Remember that Jankovic has failed against power hitters on hard court and carpet so far this year -
6-4 6-7 4-6 loss to Kim Clijsters in Sydney final
3-6 2-6 loss to Serena Williams in Australian Open round of 16
Three losses to Ana Ivanovic (5-7 3-6, 6-3 4-6 2-6, 6-4 3-6 5-7) this year
6-4 1-6 6-7 loss to Venus Williams at the US Open quarter finals

It was certainly unexpected, considering Jankovic is #3. However, Davenport is quite a force to contend with, and I am very happy for her. She will come out strong. I can see her in the Top 20 in the near future. After this win, her ranking will certainly jump quite a bit. It is great to see her back!
