To work in New York theatre as stage crew, is there a union you have to join?

There is a union called the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Moving Picture Machine Operators. I don't whether you have to join it but it has 76,000 members so membership is probably fairly common in New York theatre.

Oh yeah. As the man says. What he didn't mention is that you have to be born into the union. If you don't have a relative who is a member, forget it.
