I'm guessing you want to stay out of the snow...since you mentioned flordia & Las Vegas.

I'm not sure how old your daughter is, but the following places are great for any age. They all have lots to do!

San Diego, CA
Los Angeles, CA
San Francisco, CA

Good Luck!

If the cold doesn't bother either of you - do NYC or Chicago. Both are big cities with good shopping and sightseening. However, in January, it can get COLD.

If you're more interested in sunny shores, I'd say either Cancun or one of the islands in the Carribean - or even a cruise. (Some of them leave out of Texas, others out of south Florida.) I have a friend who does a cruise every November with her daughter (now 20) and they love it. IMO: a cruise would be fun for the Carribean, because some of the resorts are SO expensive - and you can get the best of ALL the islands you see and can see more than one in a trip.

Oh honey,
Take her shopping in New York or California. Take her to see Broadway shows. Or give her a huge sweet sixteen birthday party with a real dj!!
Sweet Sixteen only happens once. Maybe take her car shopping...And to a nice dinner. Or buy her and her friends tickets to an awesome concert. Rent her a limosine in Hollywood, California and get her a real photo shoot with a pro!

SO many options it really depends if your daughter has a lot of friends who she enjoys hanging out with out. Or if you and she are super close. Or if you are on a budget. I mean if you are on a budget try this one- Get her a gift certificate to the nicest clothing store in town. Only a $150.00 dollars and let her pick out clothes to go out with you to a completely grown up restraunt. Maybe a local place where there have been star citings. (If she is in to stuff like that) And then if she is not. Rent a boat on the lake for a day and have a boat party. Complete with rented jet skis. Doesn't like the water? Take her horse back riding. Doesn't like animals. Take her dirt bike racing. Not into that scene. Make your house into a total RAVE spot and advertise on the 'teens' chat rooms! Do something that will be wonderful for both of you because I know from experience kids have fun when their parents are really calm and not stressed out!~
Good luck and tell your daughter congrats on turning sweet 16, way to go good mom. Way to go that u want it to be wonderful for her. Keep that enthusiasm, with out stressing and everything will go fine!!

NYC. My oldest daughter took my youngest daughter and 3 of her friends to NYC for her 16th b-day 1 1/2 years ago on MLK weekend. Her birthday is Jan. 19. I found a good price on rooms at one of the Marriotts for that weekend. You can also research rooms by looking at best answers for NYC hotels. They had a blast. They went shopping in Chinatown and had dim sum there, they ate lunch at some celebrity hangout. They had the birthday dinner at the Four Seasons which has a pre-theater dinner for $65 a person appetizer to dessert (212-754-9494). You have to be seated by 6 and ask to be put in the pool room. Tell them it's her birthday and they have a wonderful special dessert in addition to the meal's dessert. Nice dress or suit for women, jacket and tie for men. Celebrities sometimes eat there. They saw Hairspray afterward. They got the tickets discount online. They went shopping on 5th Ave and at Century 21 and went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which has armor, mummies and a big room with a pool and an Egyptian temple that my daughter loves.

You'd be suprised at how much you can do in Vegas!!!! I've been there three times in the past year for long weekends and probably spent less then 5 hours total in the casinos gambling.... Besides touring the hotels, going to the roller coasters, shopping, go to the pools you can also drive to the Grand Canyon and go hiking or see the Hoover Damn. Don't forget all the shows....

You could go to Cali. But, there's always Brazil and those places in South America. Brazil is rly fun. But if she's into tourism, Machu Picchu in Peru is AMAZING! Anyway, it's summer in S. America when it's winter in USA.
