Many people still mindlessly follow the old American Mccarthy-era paranoia about communism taking over the world and being a threat to America.
After all, it was Communist Russia who beat the US into space travel, who first put a satellite into orbit, who first put a man into orbit as well as an animal (and safely brought back alive).
Yes, China is still a Communist country. Cuba is. And I believe some countries in South America are embracing Communist values.
Typically social embracing of Communist values follows being badly burned by the ruling class of any given date in history, whether ruling class be royalty or business (as in capitalism).
And in it's purest form, in theory, Communism is the ideal and perfect society. It's probably too perfect because there are no living humans who could possibly do everything that is expected of a perfect Communist. It's humanly impossible.
Anyway, it DOES work for some societies. And for others it doesn't. So just live and let live.
A good bit of metaphor to read about Communism is George Orwell's "Animal Farm".

Excellent Question.
The Chinese Government is corrupt just like the American Government is corrupt.
Have you considered to visit China one day ? It is a beautiful land. The people are very peaceful / graceful.
The great wall of China is one of the only freestanding structions that can be seen from the moon. It's incredible to view.
Shanghai is one of the most modern Cities in the world. The skyscrapers are beautiful.
Hong Kong is a busting business capital.
A lot of money flows through China. It has an excitement / electricity to it that is unique.
The far east is incredible to behold. I believe it will be superpower in the future.
I will warn you that you will see small boxes on backs of bikes . The boxes do contain dogs. LOL. . This is dinner. LOL.
They have everything we have in America too.
Only recently did Hong Kong return to the Chinese. The British / Americans stole it from them years ago. They brought boats of drugs and made all the people addicted to drugs. When they were druggged they lost judgement and signed British treaty to give the British ownership of their country. Honk Kong was controlled by the Queen and Britian for 2 thousand years. The lease / agreement expired and now China owns it again .

Communism is a utopian political system that only works in theory. If you like dictators, no rights, everyone spying on everyone else, no property ownership, and being a slave to an impractical sytem then maybe that's for you.
Americans aren't interested in communism because they are accustomed to all the things that communism could never provide them. All my life I've lived with the threat of a communist nation dropping nuclear weapons on my home. I'll never be interested in their tired @$$ failed system.

OK, I understand the question. The "so-what" is that Communism is a repressive regime that totally disregards HUMAN rights.
They are the world's number one source of pollution; half of the houses being built, in the entire world, are in China.
And, one of every five persons on earth is a Chinaman. It used to be one in four, but the Mexicans invaded the U.S., so they went down.

From what I understand, it is a crime to be unemployed. You must either work in a government owned company, or be a member of a cooperative, or have your own business, but you can't employ others (except for family) without government approval.
They have free medical care and education and no one is unemployed or homeless. They are tougher on crime than most countries.
Their elections are for local officials, who elect regional officials, who elect national officials, and they elect the politburo, who tell everyone else what to do.

Thou hast not lived in yon communist hell. I suggest you travel to China, exercise your rights you have here to criticize their government, and see how long you last in one of thier "re education " camps...I give you 1 week. That's being generous.
The poor S.O.B.'s that are in China live exactly what the ruling top class "grants" them. Near starvation, no freedom, slave labor camps, and being shot for minor {by our standards} offenses. So what ? Trade places with one of them. Bet your eyes would be opened !

thier life is what ever the government tells them it is, to a degree. the chinesse *sp* have become more capitalistic, but they are still ran by the government. Have you noticed the recent crack down on people who have more than one child. good grief, those people are so fertile they have to limit the children they can have.
