I recently got a Bank of America World Points credit card and called to activate it, the customer service representative on the phone activated it as requested. However, while trying to persuade me to join the Credit Protection Plus program, which I repeatedly said “no” to several times. He informed me that he accidently enrolled me in it by clicking the wrong button on his computer. He then apologized for it several times, and told me to cancel it as soon as I got it in the mail.
I don’t know if the representative was trying to make a quick sales commission buck, but don’t they need my signature/approval to be enrolled in a program such as the Credit Protection Plan service? I tried cancelling by calling the 800 number but they give me another number to call, and after calling the alternative number they then direct me to the original number on the statement, basically sending me in a never ending loop.

They don't need a signature if you consent during a recorded call. And yes, they get commission on enrolling you in their programs, and I agree he may be trying to pad his paycheck.

The good news is the call was recorded. I would call back the regular number, tell them the story, and have them connect you to a supervisor. Once you get an actual person, ask their name, and don't disconnect. By giving their name, they will be more motivated to help you.

I seriously doubt a lawsuit would be worth it, they will just claim mistake.

I'd just cancel the card altogether. Yes, you can sue but the cost in doing so far exceed the merit. It's so much easier to cancel it, then go get a card from someone else.
