Um, those adjectives don't apply, but that doesn't mean "mob" can't be seen in a positive light...
"They were greeted by a mob of well-wishers as they exited the church."
"He was greeted by an adoring mob of fans when he stepped out of his limo."
"The mob of friends and family waited patiently at the airport gate for the GIs to return home."
And, not all "hordes" are maurading, either.
You just don't notice,maybe.

i'd guess because mob generally has a negative connotation. it's hard, even using positive adjectives, to change people's perception of the word.

1. a disorderly or riotous crowd of people.
2. a crowd bent on or engaged in lawless violence.
