I understand during the beginning of pregnancy they say there is a risk of misscarriage if you overwork. But i've also been told to continue lifting or working as i did before i was pregnant..
I personally was a carpenter before i was pregnant so i don't feel there isn't alot i can't do, i know its different for everyone.. but even that said, people treat me like i'm made of glass, and even scold me if i've done some manual labor around my own home.. why is this? pregnant women sould pay more attention to their bodies, if it hurts don't do it, but we'er deffinately not that breakable..... are we?

No you aren't and actually its defying nature not to clean! The "nesting instinct" is one of the strongest, and if you don't put the house exactly like you brain is jabbing you to do, theres a chance you could stress out so bad the baby could miscarriage because of the confusion your instincts are fighting. The "lizard brain"(instincts) really want a perfect house, same reason people buy sooo many baby booties and stuff that doesn't work and they really don't need. So if people say you can lift a finger, say you'll lift two! Of course, don't work till you're actively TIRED, that isn't good, but say you're healthy enough to clean! Soon-to-be Mothers really love to clean!!! You just keep straiting until its utterly perfect, then you straiten something else, realize that doesn't work, change the first thing, it goes on and on. Anyways, try and follow what your body tells you to do, because it doesn't want a misscarriage either! Good luck, and happy cleaning!

P.S. No heavy lifting!

Actually, yes you are "breakable". I can admit that it's probably mostly being over protective when people when treat pregnant women like they are made of glass, but it's for a good reason. It's not like if you made a mistake all that happens is something is spilled on the floor like a drink or something. This is a baby. If you overdo anything, it can have severe consequences. Alot of people don't think it's worth the risk, and I agree. Just enjoy taking a break, and being waited on to some extent.

You've answered your own question. :-)

As long as there are no problems with the pregnancy, do as you always have done as long as your body will alllow you to do it.

As one person here said - a lot of this is old wives' tales.

Just think of the many women in foreign countries who give birth in the field, and pick the baby up and continue to work - now it happens a lot, but I wouldn't recommend that - LOL !

Be happy, and just let people care for you, but do your own thing as long as it doesn't hurt you.

As a pregnant woman myself, I've noticed this too.
In my case at least, it's just because it's become uncomfortable now that I'm much further along, and most women once pregnant lose a lot of energy, so everyone's more careful that we are able to keep our energy up and not strain ourselves.
I don't think any manual labor could actually cause any problems without you noticing the strain while you're working.

Womens centre of gravity is located mid point or the stomach if you will, if you go a pick up somthing heavy you tend to bend your knees and use your upper thighs and stomach to carry through the lift, i believe it's the stress of the stomach baring such a weight that puts the mother in danger of early labour she is also off balance arching her back to compensate for her center of gravity being displaced.

It is because people think that when the risk of miscarriage due to strenous work disappears, the risk of preterm labor due to strenous work appears.

Work but dont do strenous work. Being a carpenter is not too strenous but eat and sleep well and dont accept too much job.

Actually it feels nice to be pampered that way - at least that once in your life! :-) But I agree that in a low-risk pregnancy a woman can and will usually do most of the stuff that she did before she got pegnant.
