As someone who doesn't care about trends much, I'd advise you to just go what you're comfortable with. As for what's in:

wide legged jeans
high waisted pants
geometric patterns
trapeze dresses
tunics with leggings
very angular and geometic bangles and jewlery
skinny jeans (straight leg and boot cut always "in")
across the shoulder bags
wooden accessories
any shades of yellow
berets
booties
new textures/textures in general
pops of color
oversized clutches
wide belts
plaid
cardigans, older looking ones
the "guy" look...button up shirts
trench coats in patterns or neutrals
sweater dresses
metallics
jewel tones, esp. in silk
bows
footless tights
opaque tights
beanies
moccasins
colorful tights
big bags/totes
knee high socks
legwarmers
jumpers
skimmers aka sneaker flats

basically it's back to 80's.

And try the teenvogue.com forums...the talking fashion one will have all kinds of help on this stuff and ideas for stores. If you have an H&M near you, go there! It's like Forever 21 but higher quality, the stuff is gorgg.

u have to have like 5 pairs of jeans, maybe, even 7
hoodies or sweatshirts
ballet flats
some long sleeve, layered shirts *maybe from american eagle or aero, if u like those stores
maybe a jean skirt w/ long leggings in the fall
get some camis or tank tops to wear under a button up t-shirt or long sleeve shirt, layers, layers.
get some skinny jeans

defanitly the plum, olive greens, maroon, and that mustard-yellow color are in. Try pairing up some babydoll dresses with some leggings and flats/boots for the fall, then in the winter pair up your babydoll with some jeans. Also layers are very stylish!!

-definitely baby doll dresses wear by themselves but when it gets colder try it with leggings or jeans.
-leggings and tights are also really big this season (fall). wear them with skirts, jumpers, dresses or babydolls.
-plaid!! whether its a skirt or shirt all the way to a hair piece they are everywhere!
-jeans which are(almost)always in season. not just skinny but but classic straight leg, wide leg, and high-waisted.
-last but not least flats! the must have shoe of the year. there are endless possibilities to styles and shapes.
hope this helps!
