I had a total infestation in our "new" house the previous owners had untreated pets.. So, it was so bad that they were just biting/jumping on the children when I came to drop off some things... ! So, I went to the warehouse club and bought about 12 lbs of baking sods and a restuarant size box of iodized salt $3 mixed it together and sprinkled it on the carpets... The BS smothers live fleas/larve and the SALT dissolves the eggs. PLUS since the previous owners smoked it freshened the carpets and the salt absorbs loose dirt ! I got a couple cheapie flea collars and put them in my bagless upright.. I let that sit overnight.... It's not harmful to children but, pets shouldn't lick the carpet.. .So, it would be best to keep them seperate... If they do.... The next day I vacuumed the whole house really, really well... The fleas were dead/dying.. Just empty the cansiter or bag outside.. The BS/SALT mix. will vacuum up gray !!! I vacuumed everyday for acouple weeks.. I also bombed the house with RAID foggers.. I have a 3 bdrm ranch w/ a finished basement.. .Don't forget the basement ! OR the fleas will simply "flee" down there... You don't need a bomb in every room you can place one in a hallway or livingroom diningroom/combo and that should take care of that area...The bombs cost about $20 for a multipack.. I also treated my dog.. (she had NOT been to the house).. A few days AFTER we moved in...That way she would have whatever fleas may have been left in the house. !!! I washed her with dishsoap and left it on for about 5-10 min.. Then I treated her with ZODIAC brand drops which are available at PETSMART/PETCO for a fraction of what frontline/advantix cost.. it's about $13 for a 4-month supply... I DO NOT use both fleas soap/drops.. Remember the drops are poison ! Too much is dangerous for your pet.. . So, be careful.. If you want to spot check for fleas get a shallow dish and put about 1/2 inch of water with some dish soap in it and leave it by a light or shine a desk lamp in it and the fleas are attracted to the heat and will jump in and drown.... You may have to replace your filter on your vacuum because of the baking soda... Good luck

I just had to deal with this - I have 2 outdoor/ indoor dogs that picked them up from a friend's house. Firstly, I would not use Advantage - that's what I was using but I found out that it only kills adult fleas. Frontline Plus is better because it also kills eggs. Make sure that you don't bath them 3 days before and after giving them the topical treatment - the medication is distributed through the oils in the skin and when you bathe them, it strips the oils. The best way to get rid of fleas in your home is to keep it as clean as possible. Wash pet bedding in warm soapy water. Also vacuum carpet, couches, etc. every day. Vacuuming is your best friend, as it gets rid of the eggs and larvae. (10% of the fleas are on your pets, the other 90% are in your house.)

I bought a jug of Enforcer flea killer at Home Depot. I sprayed the whole house and washed all the bedding. I used Frontline on the cats and I also sprayed them with Adams flea spray. I repeated this whole event a month later. it took care of the problem. MJ probably has something there, too. Bengal products are excellent. Good luck!!

I have flea probs too. I use Frontline on my pets and spray my house with this stuff you can get at the vet office called Knockout. It costs about 10-15 dollars. I use it b/c it's safer with kids than bombing and it works. Flea collars in the vac. There are some products you can use in the yard too but most are not safe for pets or kids. Wash your pets regularly in ivory or regular dawn dish soap it helps.

The safest and cheapest method of getting rid of fleas is to use a mixture of boric acid and salt. The powder should be sprayed on carpets, bedding and areas frequented by pets. More information on getting rid of fleas is available at http://pests.in/fleas.html

I used a can of spray by Bengal that I got at Wal-Mart. It kills fleas at every stage of their life for 120 days. I used it on all hard and soft surfaces (carpets, wood floors, and pet bedding) that my dogs came into contact with. I never saw another flea again.

agree with kellya but also put a flea collar in your vacuum bag. wash all animals bedding, fleas have cycles so you will have to repeat in 2 weeks to make sure.
Treat your yard also!
Bombs work too

Need to call Chem Lawn or other bug professional to kill the fleas in the lawn... Home Depot--Walmart has flea bombs-- just follow the directions.. Vacate the house. And repeat in 14 days-- should do it..
The fleas are in the yard and come into the house...

Fleas can be hard to get rid of.It's best to call an exterminator in to do the job.
Get him to advise you how to keep rid of them once he has sprayed your house.
