So after reading this question "Which NHL superstar has had the worst post-playing career?" I decide just to throw this out here and see what comes up. As far as proffetional atheletes are concerned, I think its safe to say Hockey players make the least. I know in the 90's and 00's before the salary cap, most players where getting paid very well. Now with the cap, most are still making several million per year, yeah mabey now they've actually got to live a life of semi-normality to be able to actually retire, when they retire. But there must be atleast a few players that got swept up in living a life of "glamor" and have blown all their money, or made a bad investment possibly. Does anyone for actually work a 9-5 to pay the bills?

Former Red Wing/Blackhawk Bob Probert used to like to drink and drive his Motorcycle up and down a 3 lane divided highway after the bar. He eventually got caught one early morning and paid the price. How bout the limo driver the Wings had when Konstantinov and the team messuse had been involved with. the driver was high on pot, and apparently fell asleep at the wheel. Pelly Lindberg, Phil Flyers) poor guy, we all know what happened there as well. I bet the average NHL player isnt the best of drivers. Lots are foreigners first of all and so many are younger and inexperienced! Some of the worst drivers and road rage occurs on the crappy streets of Hockeytown and surrounding suburbs.

Check out the movie "Net Worth." It's about how the league/owners were robbing the players blind back in the 50's.

"Terrible" Ted Lindsay of Detroit and a few others got together and started working on a union, but Jack Adams and pals managed to sabotage those works and essentially kept the ranks happy by helping them form a "Player's Association" instead.

One of the reasons for the players' unhappiness was the death of a retired teammate... who died when the car he was living in burned up with him in it.

Ask Alan Eagleson. He stole a ton of money from guys like Carl Brewer. And Fuhr got ripped off by his accountant.
I don't know of guys who did the total money meltdown on their own a la Cecil Fielder or Mike Tyson.
Some of the other old timers didn't get much when they retired.

Although McCarty isn't retired yet, he had to file for bankruptcy last year. They actually made him auction off all 3 of his Stanley cup rings, ain't that a *****.
