music of today or music from back then? why?

I prefer music from back in the day. Although I like some songs today, I cannot imagine still listening to any of them five or ten years from now. Music today is faddish, whereas music from back in the day had more "stay-in" power, more meaning, and the music was just better. Today's music is just copycat music, everyone is sampling the past, so that says that old school music "is" better. Old songs are not sad and depressing as someone else mentioned. They are invigorating and spark up nostalgia! :)

There's very little real music being made today.
Music pretty much died sometime in the 90s, I think.
I like a few people pretty well now (John Mayer, Norah Jones, John Legend, Train), and every once in awhile there's a decent song that comes by. But very few people put out anything good on a consistent basis.

I tend to like music that reminds me of good times I've had so that would mean, since I'm an old fart, that it would usually be older music, although some new music is nice to listen to as well.

Way back to the 30's. Up through the 70's. I don't feel popular,jazz or classical have moved forward much since about 1980. I hear good stuff but I don't hear anything new.
