Most people end up using some sort of technology in their careers. By exposing students to technology in the class room, they are better prepared for their future careers. Also, use of technology gives them an advantage over others when they are competing for jobs.

I believe that technology in the classroom can be beneficial if it is used appropriately. Some people tend to over do it thus reducing any impact it can have. Some examples are class web pages. They are a great way to keep students and parents informed. Other uses of technology can be virtual tours of museums or other sites that you could never take a class to. Also using simulations is a good way for students to better understand some concepts.

Amazingly few. There are computers in every classroom in the US these days, but they're seldom used for anything.

They tend to be very much a distraction because they teach, or try to teach, in a manner far different from a teacher who is standing right there.

There are also maintenance and reliability problems: most classrooms run into eternal networking and software compatibility problems.

It's fine if there are computers in the school's library, and if kids use them at home, but they're highly-overrated as instructional devices.
