There are 8 cities that have had an NHL hockey team in the past that currently do not have a team playing there. How many can you name (city and team) without looking them up online?

Please star my question if you think it is a good one.

Since you obviously know the answer, it's not really worth putting a star (can star as a verb now be used in "to star something"?) next to.

This is too easy a question--Cleveland, Oakland, Hamilton, Hartford, Quebec City, Winnipeg, Kansas City, Brooklyn (although technically a borough now).

You can also add Phoenix (they now play in Glendale), Bloomington (the Wild play in St. Paul), Greensboro (Carolina now play in Raleigh), Miami (Florida now play in Sunrise), East Rutherford (not really a city per se...NJ now play in Newark), Ottawa (after current rink built they moved to Kanata), San Francisco (SJ played at the Cow Palace until the Tank was built) and Landover (where the Caps used to play until the Phone Booth was built).

There ya go...mind blowing, eh?

Since Cyrenaica has already provided the correct answer.

The Kenora Thistles??/ They pre-date the NHL (won Staley Cup in 1907)
The Seattle Millionaires? Are you referring to the Vancouver Millionaires (1915 Cup winner) or the Seattle Metropolitans (1917 Cup winner)?

The Panthers play in Miami now (Sunrise is a region, not a suburb within the Miami city limits). Prior to Sunrise, the Panthers played in Fort Lauderdale

Glendale is in the Phoenix metropolitan area
Kanata is in the Ottawa metropolitan area (on the highway to nowhere)
Bloomington is part of Minneapolis-St. Paul which according to the State of Minnesota's official website is still one metropolitan area.
Landover is part of the District of Columbia's metropolitan area.

Greensboro on the other hand.....................quite far from Raleigh..............sadly a bit too far for Steve Chiasson.

If you want to be technical, there's more than 8, but for the sake of argument, here's the list:

Brooklyn, New York
Cleveland, Ohio
Hamilton, Ontario
Hartford, Connecticut
Kansas City, Missouri
Oakland, California
Quebec City, Quebec
Winnipeg, Manitoba

Technically, these cities have had them, but don't now:

East Rutherford, New Jersey (Devils play in Newark now)
Greensboro, North Carolina (Hurricanes used to play there)
Miami, Florida (Panthers play in Sunrise)
Bloomington, Minnesota (North Stars played there; Wild play in St. Paul)
Ottawa, Ontario (the Senators play in Kanata)
Phoenix, Arizona (the Coyotes play in Glendale)
San Francisco, California (Sharks used to play there)

There's one more that I can't think of exactly without looking it up, but it's a city in Maryland where the Capitals used to play.
