Siberia: Russia, later the Soviet Union, operated a series of labor camps, known as the Gulag. This became so frequent that "Siberia" came to be used as metaphor for exile and punishment: "a bureaucratic Siberia"

Iberia: located in the extreme southwest of Europe, and includes modern day Spain, Portugal, Andorra and Gibraltar.
