Can you please determine the length of BD and explain how?

BC^2 = AB*BD, by similarity
BD = 12^2/14 = 72/7

There is a theorem in the bok which said

BC^2 = AB 8 BD

So the answer is BD = 12 x 12 /14 = 72/7
